Numerous reports of United going for Thiago if they can't land Cesc have come out...
With all the talks of Thiago being sold I can't see 1)Why we would allow that to happen or 2)Why we would let him go but keep Cesc.

If we can keep both, great. But if 1 has to (or will) be sold we should sell Cesc. Both are fantastic players but Cesc's best moments come behind the strikers...

Look at his assist for Soldado the other day or his best moments with Barca, he plays the #10 position in the hole behind the strikers. We do not play this way.
Selling Thiago we only make 18 mil but lose a player who has come through our academy and learned/trained with the best midfielders (Xavi/Iniesta) ever. His performance in the u21 tournament showed that he is more than just another Masia player, he was a true leader and rock in midfield.
Selling Cesc would get us 35+ mil for a player who has played most of his professional career in England and outside of the Barcelona system. When all are fully fit Cesc can't displace Xavi or Iniesta. For me at the most he'll be able to cover the Xavi role once he's as old as Pirlo and no longer has the legs to do what he is currently capable of. We don't need to pay such high wages for a bench player who MAY one day fill a role or can sometimes play at False 9.
Thiago's performances at the u21's are clear proof we have a WORLD CLASS midfielder who isn't anywhere near his full potential and will one day be worth more than Cesc ever was. Letting him go will be a mistake that will take us a long time to recover from.

Cesc is not blocking thiago for the last time. cesc is an understudy for Inesta. It was foolish of people to think he was Xavi replacement when his game is nowhere near the same, yes cesc can play cm but he is am by trade. It's Xavi eating up thiago's minutes. Instead of playing him on painkillers they could of used thiago they did not. Cesc played some of those games in inestas position with the don playing out wide. Thiago sub for Xavi Cesc sub for Inesta

In an interview with fifa.com

The FC Barcelona midfielder says that his move from London to Barcelona has helped his career because "you’re playing with the best, which means you automatically have to move up a level to match the standards they set"

After Spain’s 2-1 victory over Uruguay in the Confederations Cup, Cesc Fàbregas sat down with FIFA.com to talk about his role within La Roja and what his move to FC Barcelona has done for his development as a player.

“I think moving to Barcelona was a very important step for me, because of the system and also because you’re playing with the best, which means you automatically have to move up a level to match the standards they set. You learn something in every training session and you have to give your very best,” said the midfielder who’s enjoying an ever increasing centre-stage role for Spain since he made the switch from London to the Catalan capital.

On his international career with Spain, Cesc noted that “the boss [Vicente del Bosque] has made me feel special [...] I started virtually all the games at the EURO and I’ve been in the side a lot since then too. I’m very happy about that, especially as it’s all been down to hard work and staying patient.”

When asked about Spain’s chances of claiming the only international title that’s eluded the two-time Euro champions and current World Cup holders, Cesc declared: "We’re just trying to play our game and our tournament. We can win it, just as long as we do what we know best, which is to keep possession and control the pace of the game. When we do that, we’re very difficult to beat, as we’ve shown.”

The midfielder is also confident that Spain’s reign at the top of world football is far from coming to an end. When asked how far Spain can go, he was unequivocal in his response: “As far as we want. This team’s made a habit of doing well and has a style all of its own. As long as we can maintain the standards we’ve set, there’s no reason why we can’t keep these good vibrations going.”

I wasn't trying to say Cesc is blocking Thiago from playing time. My post was about out of the 2, if one would be sold which I would prefer to sell.
Despite the points you made I'd still rather get 35 mil for Cesc and get Isco (before RM or MC) to be Iniesta's understudy. Isco's playing style is a lot closer to the Don's and he already has great chemistry with Thiago.

Cesc is a great player and he has yet to play his favoured position at Barca. I think he is better than Thiago and would prefer to keep him if I had to choose. If he is played in his correct position then he will be a huge plus for the team.

Cesc has done a good job in helping the team to a record points hall. As far as La Liga is concerned, he is already more than good enough. He just needs to improve in the Champions League and be more clinical and consistent if he plays in a Clasico. Although I supposed you could say that about all the staff.
