they are no big clubs in the world except for barcelona and real. every player's dream is to play for one of these teams. they always buy high and sell low cause these two clubs are at the pinnacle of club soccer.

i want anyone to dispute this claim of mine.

add milan to that list and you're spot-on.

how about the fact that the club basically died due to financial problems but came back?

and not only did they come back into existence, but they then got promoted back to serie 'a' and then the champions league where they knocked out 5 times winners liverpool in the group stages.

or how about their commitment to open and attacking football?

or how about their development/showcasing of top talent like toni, vargas, mutu, gilardino, jovetic, etc.?

?

they're not a big club, but they're not small, either.

Exactly. They aren't in the same category as Juve and Inter or even the Rome clubs, but they are clearly a world a part from the Catanias and Chievo Veronas of the game.

Also  Batistuta

I'd agree with your description of them tbh. I don't think Liverpool are a big club anymore, they don't challenge for the league title.

Fiorentina has a modest trophy cabinet, have been competitive in virtually every decade of their existance, were one of the "Seven Sisters" in the 90's, bounced back from bankruptcy to return to being competitive in a few years, have a modest global fanbase and have had some of the greatest players of virtually every generation play for them. Not exactly a giant of world football, but very much in the same league as the likes of Napoli, Valencia, etc.

This is true.

Crap. "have a modest global fanbase", they are barely the biggest Tuscan fanbase, let alone global.

yeh, i left milan from the list due to their appeal is being lost due to their recent fuckups and juve/inter dominance for the last 5-7 years.

barcelona and real have financial backing that would rescue them from a WWIII if needed. their games draw the maximum viewers out there. i am on firm belief that while other clubs might play a merry-go-round to challenge barca/real, the only thing that would be constant is the dominance of these two clubs on world soccer.

Milan was far behind Juve and Inter in prestige until Berlusconi arrived, Milan has definitely become more iconic but they managed to do it in a few years, it's hardly the same historical impact of Madrid and Barcelona. Milan was a big club before that but they were not in the same league as Juventus, who was clearly the establishment's club until the Berlusconi new-money came into the scene.

Tuscan loyalties are notoriously balkanized and as Fiorentina is clearly the regional power, of course it's going to be hated by local rivals the same way every non-Madrid fan in Spain hates Madrid. Fiorentina has a cult global following especially in the Americas, some of the greatest South Americans of all time had time in purple.

Lol this club what have they actually won?

2 serie a titles
6 coppa italias
1 cup-winners-cup

Nuff said. Maybe we have different definions of a medium sized club. my definition is a club that has won at least 5 league titles, has good longevity in the top division, is a regular in europe and can attract up and coming players and keeps them for a good while.

I don't give a fuck about their development and showcasing of talent or their amazing football. I care about what they win and if they can keep up that standard.

Out of those players you mentioned Toni came and went, Mutu is only there because bigger clubs won't touch him with a bargepole, Gilardino is average, Jovetic while a talent has to show he is a more than a one season wonder and Vargas will soon leave.

I am not trying to put them down or belittle the team as they have a very good team who deserve to have gotten through but they are a small club.

So Chelsea are a small club? Everton have only won 4 league titles post-war, small club? Leeds? Ridiculous criteria for the size of a club Ed.

Chelsea aren't a big club in my definition no.

The more pertinent question is have they got a future when Roman leaves?

So Sunderland is a medium sized club and Fiorentina isn't? This sounds like the desperate cries of someone who is afraid of their club's slip into irrelevance and only has the past to brag about...oh wait, that's exactly what it is.

They have a limited fanbase in thier own region, they certainly don't have a national fanbase in Italia like Milan, Juve, Inter, Roma, Lazio or even Napoli. And some Americans you claim like them. A small provincial club having a brief spell in the lime light due to patronage from a declining family.

As for history, they have none, they haven't been around long enough. Batigol played for a different, no defunked club.

Oh, I see what you are doing now, I should have known better than to waste my time responding to you. How does that not apply to Napoli too?

Anyway this argument is a dead end, it's about semantics and your definition of medium more than anything else. I guess to some people only clubs the size of Roma would be medium and everyone else from Fiorentina to Genoa to Gallipoli is the exact same thing.
