They had Gerrard and Alonso in midfield and a good defence.

Also had Luis Garcia as a playmaker. And Barros as the main force in attack. Every single attacking player from Liverpool atm would walk in that team. They do lack a character and leader like Gerrard though. But hope Klopp can be one from the sideline.

Madrid will probably up their level a bit, because they were shambles vs Bayern. Don't expect them to play a final like last year though. Last year was peak Zidane Madrid. The other versions, 2016, 2018 just scrape past scares in CL and ride their luck big time.

And coincidentally 2017 was the only one of those three years where Real had enough quality and experience on the bench to sustain and dominate games no matter who they played. Still have absolutely enough quality to do what needs to be done and compete in big ties.

bobby firmino is the key man. I think he's the most complete striker out there right now, or atleast the most intelligent. lewandowski and suarez have been utter bums in the CL of late.

Liverpool aren't actually in the final yet.. with Madrids luck is it inconceivable that Roma end up doing to Liverpool what they did to us?

Core players are getting older. You'll have issues to replace them just like we do. There's no other Modric, no other Marcelo, no other Ramos. Modric seems to be done. Needs to be phased out. Not sure Asensio and Kovacic are that consistent as to replace them seamlessly.

That Valencia team were great, made another final not long before. The atletico of their time.

Agreed. Big reason why Liverpool secured Rafa Benitez’s signature. They won one final and lost another under him. Best Valencia and Liverpool manager of the 21st Century....or is it Gary Neville? 😀

Of course the referee talk will arise, it's pretty much inevitable.

For me though, it falls on Rafinha and Ulreich. Two moment of absolute madness that were the clear decisive points of the tie.

It's a shame, but those two errors were unacceptable.
