Judging by Madrid's games against us and Pool they aren't really candidates
Barca always beats Madrid, even if we end 20 points behind them.

It is an eternal hate.

Liverpool won vs Real at a group stage.
Real is a different beast in KO matches.

If we get KO'd, only Liverpool and maybe Psg can harm them.

Say they play Leverkusen. You trust a Bundesliga team to knock them out? I don't.
Leverkusen would be favs probably v Real the way they played today.

Real looked ragged and without much of a system themselves today. City just made more mistakes and not even ones pressured into really.

What shocked me most this match is not the tactics or the technique etc.. its the lack of physical prowess and intensity displayed by city players ! So uncharacteristic of a pep team. They looked like they had played a game before coming to this one.

Imo:

1. true, divorce is surely a strong reason for his problems

2. but also, he is a man who was hailed as the greatest coach ever, the innovator, the genius.
And suddenly, his football is falling apart, nothing is working, the opponents have figured them out, he is breaking negative records with City and is making some weird panic-buys in January.

Imo, it is a huge mental blow: he was on top for years and now the magic is gone.

Especially when you add to the story:
1. he started at Barca with a GOAT Messi and had a cycle for 4 years

2. then he moved to CL winners Bayern and had a cycle for 3 years

3. now he is already at City for 9 seasons and things are falling apart

But, the problems regarding his future are:
1. he has never stayed in one club for so long to build "a new cycle" or the 2nd generation of players.
He always comes, builds a team, wins and leaves.
He never dealt with rebuilding and having to sell the original players from the 1st cycle, like De Bruyne, Bernardo and similar.

So, there is a question: can he rebuild a team? He has never done it till now.

So, if he stays at City = he is in problems.

2. if he leaves, where will he go?
Barca = been there
Bayern = been there
City = been there

It doesn't make sense to go to any other EPL team.
Seria A teams are not rich, he can't win CLs there, so the only other options are Psg and Real.
Real is not an option due to his Barca's ties.

So, when you sum it all, in terms of domination and CL titles, deep down he knows that he is stuck with City.
Yet his football has bern figured out in EPL and his team is old and needs a fresh blood and rebuilding, which he has never done in his career.

So, in terms of domination and CL trophies, his future seems quite questionable.
And that is surely eating him alive.

He is not used to being mediocre.
I'm surprised he extended his contract to be honest. I think if they weren't going through that difficult patch he would've announced he was off at the end of the season like Begiristain. Didn't have the desired outcome though as they proceeded to get even worse. Went from this is a strange run of form to, oh this team is genuinely bad now.

For the first time ever in his career, he looks genuinely out of ideas.

Against them I only trust us, unironically PSG, and inter. Pool should on paper but feel iffy about PL teams vs them.

Nah, PSG lost to Bayern and then went on to draw their next two. That brings us up to December.

Turning point was the period between beating Salzburg and the Lens comeback and penalty win in the French Cup. After that they went up and up.

I know this because I like to watch PSG lose when they are playing shit, and stop watching them when they are looking a proper side :lol:

City are a mixture of veterans and few youth players, with Haaland and Foden in between.

This squad peaked in 2023, being in build mode since 2016. Now the same core of players from 2016 are washed up. This cycle for Pep is over.

That and usually managers move on when cycle is finished. Especially at very big teams. Would be very surprising for Pep to get back to dominating with a new core of City players 2-3 years from now. This almost never happens. Even Klopp could not do it.

Depends on many factors. Would Pep walk away from this comfortable position at City? They will have to sack him. Also Pep doesn't have the "family time" factor in his life anymore to enjoy retirement. I don't know. Cut his veins a football will pop out. :lol:

Didn't he say he wants a NT gig? Maybe it is time for a break from club football.

There is no job Pep sees as a step up from here. His plan was always to stay at City and leave his legacy there.

Unless he gets emotional/drained and throws in towel he will be there for as long as he wants.
