The more I watch the CL this season, the more frustrated I get with the fact that we didn't finish top 4 last season.

We'd have been the clear clear favourites if we were in this competition. We outclassed City(considered favourites by everyone) with a bunch of kids and numerous first team starters missing.

Under Klopp, it seems like whenever we have a good season we make it to the CL final. A CL final as a Klopp farewell would have been brilliant.

SMH. Imagine being the best team in Europe despite countless first team injuries but not being able to compete for the CL trophy! Devastated.

If, after watching football for 20 or so years, you can't understand that in a knock-out tie NOT the best team always goes through, then no one can help you
That, coupled with your idiosyncratic obsession of judging things based on what happens in CL knock-outs, a phase where contingency and luck most of the times play the major role, INSTEAD of the proper mirror of every team which is the league and the whole course of the season

Other than that, Simeone's flavour has really faded from world's football. They are not the team they were until 2016, even a blind man can see that.
They won the league in 2021 by luck, as Madrid were horseshit that season, and we were in transition with Koeman, and the fact that LL is always a 2.5 team competition.
You know when Simeone will win LL again? well, NEVER most likely

So STFU and start thinking and understanding, instead of celebrating a knock-out elimination in the R16 as if it's a big feat that proves things, and hailing 'big Simeone'
Lol, the best teams prove themselves exactly in knockout matches with high pressure against the other best teams. Matches in which you give your absolute best… Leagues are won against the small teams and often results against your biggest rival means nothing.

Doesn't really work like that does it. Otherwise Arsenal would be favourites.

"Clear clear favourites" but would stumble upon Madrid sooner or later, what would happen then?

Arsenal have zero pedigree in Europe. Their players/manager have never participated in a big CL knockout tie against Bayern/Barca/Liverpool/Real(except Jorginho).

We regularly reach CL finals under Klopp. Whenever we are in good shape, we seem to get close to the/clinch the CL.

I'm confident we'd have battered Real Madrid this season if we faced them. It's Klopp's final season and the players are giving everything they can. Extra motivation everywhere. Ultimately, luck runs out and quality shines. City were struggling to get past Madrid despite being stronger than them. Ultimately, they ended up spanking Madrid last season. Similarly, after 3 to 4 unsuccessful attempts, huge doses of bad luck, poor finishing - we would have beaten Madrid this season. Every team gets over their bogey team curse eventually! As this season has progressed, our defense has strengthened a lot and the defensive organisation as a unit is brilliant. Shades of our 18/19, 19/20 defense. We have a brilliant DM in his peak again. The team is in great shape for knockout ties.

There's simply no better team for a European Cup format knockout right now. Keep in mind that Klopp's Liverpool do considerably better than Pep's City in the CL generally(Proof's in the pudding). The other contenders are simply not as strong as Liverpool are this season.

Season 14/15 the 1-0 win in Bernabeo :pique:

somehow atletico always lose against Real in cl
I mean they never did win a tie against us despite like 3-4 tries.
But that's it - they did. Past tense. Things are very different since those last few CL ties

We no longer have many players that dragged us across the line in those tight knockouts - could argue Rodrygo, Belli and Vini might do it again but it's yet to be tested
And Atleti have always been more confident against us under Carlo

Not that we'd not be favourites - we arguably would
I'm just saying it's probably the most annoying tie of the lot if it gets drawn
I wouldnt be nearly as mad at having to face any of Bayern, PSG, Barca, Arsenal etc
Only City would be an obvious problem but I actually think had it not been for Courtois and Militao getting hurt, we'd not do nearly as poorly this time around

I'm looking forward to the draw. There are only good teams left and there should be some epic showdowns in the 1/4 and later in the 1/2.

Liverpool fans gaining confidence when they know that annual battering is not possible 😀

Liverpool fan ignore the point that they are possibly doing so well domestically (well, still not top) precisely because there is no European distraction, which their main rivals have.

It's not about the CL level being lower so Liverpool would be a favourite, but that Liverpool level being higher because the EPL has been the only focus all season long.
