His output is greater at the moment. Messi's output covers a much wider array of areas (buildup, creating, dribbling, scoring, taking markers, etc.) but recently he's been lacking in most of those regards compared to his peak ability and that's a lot due to the system and the team's form. Ronaldo's output is really only goalscoring, but that is a very important output and something he's been excelling at recently.
The form of the team is what is separating the two at the moment, but it's something that definitely impacts their personal performances so while Messi has an 'excuse' there is no logical sense to say that he's performing better than Ronaldo right now.

Precision? No way, Ronaldo is still taking more shots than Messi to score. Even though Messi's finishing this year hasn't been that great, Ronaldo's hasn't been better.
Involvement in the team's offensive play? I am really perplexed, can you explain why and how Ronaldo is superior in this regard? I see the opposite, to me he is becoming more and more like a poacher, a very deadly one though.
Effort, I see it as the same as work rate, so yes Ronaldo is better.

If that's what you see, fine by me. I see a player that's the lead goalscorer in his league and also in the Champions League. If the amount of goals scored is not a sign of precision, I don't know what is.

And you think Messi won the Ballon d'Or four times because of his passing? Goals are the most important as far as individual trophies are concerned. And Ronaldo is running away with that stat. And is not like Ronaldo doesn't assist, he's one of Real's best at that chapter.

I'm saying that Ronaldo is doing his role better than Messi is doing his. Ronaldo's duty is to run around and score goals, he's doing that expertly. Messi's role covers a lot more aspects of play, but he's lacking in most of those aspects (even scoring). This is due to our team's play pulling Messi down whereas Ronaldo is being serviced well by Madrid, but it's still a fact.
I know Messi had a good scoring total in February and all but Ronaldo has scored more for when he's played. Scored a crucial equalizer vs. Atletico, demolished Schalke, etc. Once again I acknowledge that team form is weighing heavily into the gap but that doesn't make it any less of a truth.
I also know that Messi's overall play is far more impactful than Ronaldo who doesn't do much more than scoring. However right now Messi's impact on overall play isn't even good with our form right now, so Ronaldo has to take it on current performances.

The same can not be said about messi.
It is not CR7 fault that messi has too many roles to play in barca, or that his teammates are afraid to make things happen themselves!
