I don't see a plan for the future. You have to plan five years ahead, not one year. Buying older players such as Arda, Mathieu, Vermaelen do not show this board has any kind of long term plan in place. Don't get me wrong, it's not that Barça should never sign older, experienced players. They should, but only if they're world class like Suarez and Rakitic or add something the squad lacks and desperately needs. When was the last time we bought a young, promising player who immediately added something to the team and lasts for years (in other words, a player that shows there is a long term project), aside from Ter Stegen? Neymar is the most recent one that comes to mind, and it has been three years. Maybe Alba in 2012 and Alexis in 2011 (who's not even here anymore). That's five years ago now! This isn't enough, and it's not like the board/coach can or want to rely on youth players either.
The people responsible better bring their best in the next couple of years, because it is only going to get more difficult to sign the players we need to replace in the coming years.

The succession plan should be in place already for our first XI. Instead we just let them get old and buy more players around 30 like Arda and all the forwards we're linked to are around 30. Rather than buy a long term replacement for Masch we buy more players of the same age in Vermalen and Matheiu. They're clueless and we're going to be screwed when this team departs and it's starting to happen already with Alves and Masch.

The two choices that I see who'll come -close- to fill the space Dani will leave are Bellerin or Aurier, It'll be a tough summer if those Masche rumors turn out to be true, if they do, I can see Enrique sticking with Vidal as an RB and just try to ask the board to lure in a WC defender to fill the void, don't expect a WC RB and defender in one season folks.

Not to sound negative. But, these free transfers are going to be the downfall of Barca financially someday.

It's the reality of letting the team age. When they leave there's no re-sale value. Then you're having to replace a world class player which will cost 50 million and that's with no money coming in from his sale. He could have been sold a couple of years ago for 30 million with that money used for a younger replacement.

We'll get no money for Masch and it'll cost 50 million to replace him.

Same with Iniesta when he goes.

I said it's a fucking media war against Dani and maybe his ex having a laugh. Dani is with NT atm, he's not even focused on club shit. That's exactly he said at the end of the season - don't listen to the fucking media.

Would you prefer to sell Alves and/or Masche 3 seasons ago and get younger replacement who wouldn't be as good as them so we wouldn't win as much as we did? Personally I prefer trophies.

And don't say we didn't do anything to get Alves's replacement. We buy Vidal last year. He didn't work out like we hoped so far but he still can if/when given a fair opportunity which he'll get this year if Alves's rumours are true. We were also looking to bring in younger CB this season long before those rumours about Mascherano possibly leaving. Yes, he's 32 but he was our best CB this season so it's not like he's over the hill and he still has a good season or two in him.

We also can't really force club legends like Xavi or Iniesta out of the club against their will when they are "too old" so we'll get some money for them. Xavi was great in his limited role last season and Iniesta has also shown what he can do in CDR final and shut up most of his critics. I have absolutely no problem with letting players like them go on their own terms after they have given their entire life on and off the field to Barça.

Having 5 years plan would mean buying someone like Dybala and let him stay on the bench for 2 or 3 years until Suarez leave? Or should we just sell Suarez now when he's imporant part of the best attacking trio in history and replace him with younger player who we don't know how he'll work out here? Or should we never buy him in first place because he was already 27 at that time?

Everyone wants to see younger players but they are not always better. If they are we consider signing them and we actually bought arguably the best young players on their positions (Ney, MATS) over the last 3 seasons. We have also buy more raw but very talented Denis and Alen, so you can't say we are not thinking longterm just because we didn't sign some "names" people here wants. Denis can turn out to be longterm Iniesta replacement for all we know if don Andres takes him under his wings for the next 2 seasons. Alen can also take Messi's RW position if/when he moves more centrally. Of course he'll never fully replace Messi (no one can do that) but he has some similar skills than young Messi. He needs to work hard to get to Barça level and maybe he won't reach that but it was a longterm thinking when we signed him. We also have other promising youngsters like Samper, Alena, Kaptoum, Lee who deserve to get a chance.

Was thinking the same. I wonder if he somehow knew those kind of (untrue) rumours are coming when he made that speech.

That's only a positive for the financial side of it.. In the last 2 seasons with Dani we've won 7/9 possible trophies.. So if we'd have got rid of him 2 years ago who's to say his replacement would be anywhere near as good. 30 million is nothing nowadays compared to having a reliable RB for 2 seasons.. And his replacement would have cost the same if not more so it doesn't make sense.

The best thing to do is buy a replacement for him where Alves stays and has a transitional season like Xavi did with Rakitic although I feel Alves probably isn't at that stage yet we could start him for another season possibly two, but this benefits the team the most instead of selling when he's still worth something.
