Luckily we have been linked to RB's all season long, so the board is probably well-prepared for this to happen, after all they were the ones to put a clause in his contract, that he could leave for free. :shakeshead:

If we spent +40M on Bellerin (who could use at least 1 more season in top-football before being Barca-ready) we will have no cash to strengthen our CB-position, which is in most need. If Alves truly does leave for free, I hope we buy cheap, and doesn't change our transfer-plan too much, as it does not seem like we have been scouting that much for his position. Roberto + Vidal + 1 new cheaper RB must do for next season then.

Surely we won't start Vidal who had hardly any playing time and Roberto who isn't a RB.. Not to say Roberto didn't do a good job but I just can't see us starting him every game at RB if Alves leaves

I just fear that he will leave and they tell us that they trust Vidal and Roberto and won't be buying a replacement.

Typical Dani, great in the last 2 games (that assist to Suarez for the 2nd against Granada comes to mind), than starts the drama.

On a more serious note, all the best to him, he put it all out there and he earned his "legend" status. Big big thanks to the amazing Dani Boy

There's literally no RB put there who seem better than Aleix and Sergi tho. Atleast not much of a difference except the unbuyable ones - Carvajal or oldies - Lahm.

That's why I'm sad to see him leave. Really noone in the world can replace him. But the board and Dani have always fought a lot so I guess it was coming... still hope he changes his mind tho.

Even Bayern may not really be able to retain their current status .when Robben & Ribery are done they will really need the other younger guys to step up big time and there is no guarantee that it will happen.

You mean Costa and Coman ain't good enough?

Costa is great and Coman is very promising of course, but none of them are close to prime Robben and Ribery, and I can't imagine they ever will be.

The two choices that I see who'll come -close- to fill the space Dani will leave are Bellerin or Aurier, It'll be a tough summer if those Masche rumors turn out to be true, if they do, I can see Enrique sticking with Vidal as an RB and just try to ask the board to lure in a WC defender to fill the void, don't expect a WC RB and defender in one season folks.

Not to sound negative. But, these free transfers are going to be the downfall of Barca financially someday.

Dortmund are not at the top now and dont have same pressure to compete for league/CL each season.

A lot of the players you name at Bayern are not young players and a lot have not came in and had immediate positive impact.

That was the criteria you used - young and immediate or lasting impact but you list a whole heap of players who dont fit that criteria. The likes of Lewandowski, Vidal etc were not young players when signed. Neither was Benatia and others.

Mandzukic was bought by Bayern four years ago yet it seems to be a stretch to consider Barca players three years ago.

Barca have replaced players anyway. The likes of Valdes, Puyol, Abidal, Xavi, Villa have all gone from one great side and another won a treble a few years later with a lot of new players.

I didn't say Dortmund are at the top. I said they have a solid sporting project.

A lot of players I named were younger than 24 when they bought them, so there are a lot. Those are players you buy for the next four years or more. I said Bayern bought 12: Coman, Götze, Shaqiri, Bernat, Kimmich, Thiago, Costa, Neuer, Javi Martinez, Boateng, Weiser, Højbjerg, Petersen, Kirchhoff and Rode (add Kroos and Alaba now you mentioned Sergi Roberto and Rafinha). I was wrong, that's fifteen players, and most of them have contributed a lot to the team. The older ones are Lewandowski, Vidal, Alonso, Benatia, Mandzukic, Dante, Rafinha, Pizarro and Ullreich and Starke, who are back up GKs. That's eight if you don't count the goalkeepers, of which all have more or less succeeded.

Most of the players in that list make the criteria I used. And if they don't it doesn't matter because buying mostly young players still shows Bayern is thinking about the long term rather than short term.

I didn't say Lewandowski and Vidal were young players, they were world class and available, that's why they signed them. Just like Suarez and Rakitic at Barça.
Also, it's not a stretch for me to include Barça players from four years ago. It's just that there aren't a whole lot to add to the players signed three years ago (Alexis being the only one). The only players who are younger than 24 that Barça signed for the first team in the last 4 years are Alexis, Ter Stegen, Neymar, Alba, Sergi Roberto, Munir, Bartra, Sandro and Rafinha. That's 9 players, of which a third has made a minimal impact. In Bayern's list only Weiser and Højbjerg have made a minimal impact on the squad.
