Daniel Alves

As good as he was, shouldn't play at the same time as Busi and Pique. Preferably only one should play.

He was good. Helped us move the ball in ways that Araujo can only dream.

But I wonder if the right move is to sacrifice speed and intensity for control.

I guess that won't matter in a season where the requirements are top 4 and a strong run in Copa Del Rey and Europa League. But for next season we shouldn't be considering having Alves in the lineup.

But I am going to enjoy watching him for the nostalgia and the moments of brilliance that he will inevitably sprinkle.

Damn his passing is still class AF!

Even at 38, he does things that bums like Semedo, Dest and Mingueza could only dream of doing.

Sadly he can't cope with the athletic ability or intensity of high level attackers. But still he is better than any RB Barca has..

Just said we should get rid of Pique, Busquets and Alba but I really don't mind keeping a motivated player regardless of age.

Think Dani shows and will show his dedication on the pitch.

38 years old Alves is better for than the whole squad I don?t know if this is good news or something worrisome. Well it says a lot about Barca overall quality...

What Dani brings is pretty obvious to me. He was the one player on the field yesterday who seemed like he had his eyes on winning. He saw what we needed to do and took the responsibility of trying to work our game towards that.

You can have 11 players on the field who all "play well" and still lose/draw every game. Right now we have too many guys trying to "play well" and not enough like Dani who are actually trying to win the game, whose idea of responsibility doesn't come from performing your duties but from acknowledging what it actually takes and then fucking doing that thing.

It's like when we lost to Liverpool and people thought it was because we made nervous mistakes on the ball. Liverpool made mistakes as well. The difference is that they were playing to win and we were playing to avoid making mistakes.

The worrying part about Alves is Xavi creating a position for him that is down to his age and lack of legs.

Playing in more or of a DM area at times and doesnt over lap much or be asked to be in line with rest of defence as a 'proper' RB.

He made a lot of tackles yesterday but again this almost seemed to be as he had freedom to go look for ball... that causes a lot of tackles and a lot of space in behind and team being caught out.

As decent as Alves was on the ball Granada targeted the space in behind him and Piques side of the defence.

Having a RB that doesnt over lap much, doesnt defend his area of park in position due to his legs impacts everyone else in the team.

The wide players at Barca look isolated too much. They are being asked to hug touchline and 40 yds from the CF. Need to see how get on with better wide players and ability to sustain a game up the park but at moment Koeman last season was playing football that was closer to the Pep time than Xavi has.

Xavi is setting them up to play patterns of football on a big pitch rather than creating overloads and smaller moves to open game up.

It's a shame that his main attributes (speed and workrate) are gone due to age

He is still class in every other department
Hopefully he mentors our fullbacks.

Well it is also just one game. I know Alves is a legend and was one of the best ever, but even both Semedo and Dest had a honeymoon start period to RB.

I think he will get progressively worse as the games go on.
