Yes but if he clearly wasn't in the team's plans, why refuse to sell him in January & keep him rotting on the bench for several more months?

I'm sorry but this whole thing stinks to me. As do most of the things that are going on with us lately. I don't trust Rosell for one second to not have some ulterior motive with anything he does.

He was in the teams plans and helped the team through against AC Milan, that has changed now that Neymar is here and his wages are due to jump when he is needed less than ever.

No chance would they have sold a first team squad player in January.

Why sell the only proper forward you have in Januray when you're already short in the numbers upfront?! Besides, he was still dealing with recovering from the injury back then. The club probably wanted to give him more chances till the end of the season.

I don't see much issues in this whole thing tbh.

Well honestly the best scenario for me would have been for him to stay & play (regularly), I'd rather have sold Pedro or Alexis before him. Having Neymar, Villa & Messi up front could have been awesome. But the club don't see it that way.

He wont play regularly on with Neymar in the team and 11m a season is to much for a 32 year old back up player.

Villa has declined.

The ulterior motive will end up being Oliver Torres. We are lining up ourselves to get one of the brightest midfield talents when/if Atletico decides to sell him.

Overall I'm happy for Villa because he wants to play.

But looking at this situation I'm still perplexed. Back in January, Arsenal were offering us a decent sum for Villa. He clearly was never in Tito's plans. He just played him when he did because Cesc, Pedro, and Alexis were in a slump and the Camp Nou crowd was voicing their displeasure with Villa being benched.

It really seems we don't learn. We pay 57 million for Neymar and offload Villa for 5 million when we could have gotten about 20 plus back in January.

Really annoying.

No chance in getting over 20m for him in January!

He played in over 20 games since the turn of the year and was an important part of the victory over Milan for example.

He was still needed and played and made an impact.

^^^Even if it wasn't 20 million, it would have been more than 5, that's for sure.

It's a bad move by the club. We could have easily gotten more money and used it to buy a defender that we will need since Puyol can't play every game anymore.

There really is no defending this.

It would have been more than five but the squad would have been a man light.

The difference is that now there is Neymar.

It is not the same situation at all and they were correct not to sell him in January with so many big games to come.

How are you so sure of this though? Haven't seen it reported anywhere but I've seen you post this several times.

I'm speculating because I've seen it mentioned plenty of times @ Colchonero and most of the guys there have a good sense of what's going on with their club.

It's foolish to think Rosell doesn't have an ulterior motive here. He positioned us to get Neymar way before this summer came.

This Villa deal at the very least keeps us in good relations with Atletico if any such deal would go down next summer.
