David Villa

Like when your team has won a record number of points in La Liga and is the only team to score more than one hundred goals so far (don't know if this is still relevant but was a short while ago) and you say, "I could have managed that team better"

Dude the signs of fatigue are already showing in our last couple of matches plus our problem of not converting chances is still prevalent. Plus our best XI lineup which had a record start is now being found out. Teams know our lineup well in advance. We are becoming too predictable. Xavi has gotten injured as he's not even rested against teams like Osasuna. Cesc looks tired and Villa has no rhythm and sulks on the bench and Tello cant even make it to the team. Why does a team have a squad of 25 players. To distribute playing time, avoiding injuries and burnout and to have all players in rhythm when called upon which our mngt seems to have forgotten

1.5 are you kidding me, the most I could say would be 2.5. And he was the main striker apart from Messi, no way he would ever go to Liverpool.

Please check up on your facts before arguing. He was either injured or out of the lineup from December 2011(Club world cup) to present. He joined after the world cup 2010. So June 2010-December 2011 is 1.5 seasons. Check out his old thread in the archive. Everybody wanted him to be sold as they preferred Alexis over him at that time

10/11 - full season
11/12 - almost full season
21/13 - half season

I check my facts lad

Do we actually know that he's declined?

I say Villa has absolutely not declined. I took the time to figure his performance based on goals per minute over the last three seasons with barca and this what I came up with.

10/11 3948 minutes, 23 goals, 171 minutes per goal
11/12 1365 minutes, 8 goals, 171 minutes per goal
12/13 1139 minutes, 10 goals, 114 minutes per goal

His goal production this season is up by approx 50% over either of the previous seasons with Barca. Saying he is off his form this season is nonsense. The stats are clear regarding Villa this season and he is actually one of the top 4 scorers in La Liga when basing it on minutes played. If he were to maintain his current scoring rate and got to play 3948 minutes like 10/11 he would score 34+ goals this season.

Barca and Real madrid do not have any room for strikers. He will stunt his development. However, in the PL, he could go to United, Chelsea, Arsenal etc.

I would not want to be a Falco or Neymar moving to Barca with Messi playing on the line and demanding the ball way he has been recently with Villa. Every other elite striker he has played with had their role marginalized and they were pushed out. The reality is that Messi puts up more goals than most teams on his own so it is a strategy that is hard to argue with.

It looks like Villa is going to be making a summer exit from Barca with all rumors pointing to Arsenal. Villa is a great player and if he leaves I wish him all the best. I think some serious reinforcements need to be made to the weak areas of our squad. With both Villa and Valdes leaving I think Alexis should be sold as well. We are pretty much playing with only 2 forwards (Messi, Pedro) and our attack really needs some new blood. If Neymar wants to come to Barca he needs to forget about waiting until after the World Cup and make the move this summer. If not, a dual position striker that can play wide & central needs to be braught in.

The sales of Villa, Valdes, Fontas, Alexis, and Afellay should give us ample amount of funds to buy a new Keeper, Center Back, and Striker. Cuenca & Tello should be regulars in the team rather than just making cameos with Deulofeu getting some experience in CdR at least. I've said it a few times before that while I like Neymar, I'd much rather prefer a versatile striker like David Villa who can produce from the flank but play in the center for those rare occasions we rest Messi.

Pure Class!

It takes time to integrate new players into this team. Getting rid of both Alexis and Villa is a bad idea.

In most cases you'd be right but since neither player ever plays it won't matter. Alexis looks like a new signing every match; talented but you can tell he's not part of the team yet (or ever in his case).

He's sacrificed and brought to the butcher shop to make Messi happy .
Pity .. he deserve a lot more than this

It's probably gonna be Neymar and not Aguero though. For one, our chances of getting Neymar are way better. And I'm not sure about benching Cesc. Him with Iniesta on the wing has been beastly this season. And I don't think Montoya will replace Alves so soon. Maybe by the 2014-15 season.

Btw, here's what our bench would be with that lineup:
CB: Puyol, Bartra, Muniesa
RB: Montoya, Adriano
LB: Abidal, Adriano
DM: Mascherano, Song
CM: Thiago, Cesc
Wings: Villa (he'll probably leave if we get Neymar though, or Aguero for that matter), Tello, Cuenca, Deulofeu (maybe)
