Eric Abidal

When this rumor first popped up I was enraged just like most other people here, but what if it's partly his idea? I think it's pretty clear that even if he stayed here, he wouldn't get a whole lot of playing time. We have Alba now & Adriano just renewed his contract too. Maybe he wants to go somewhere that he could play more, who knows.

I hate a lot of what Rosell has done to this club but a lot of times we tend to jump to conclusions that something is all his fault.

Maybe it was partly his decision, but I don't think Abidal would be unhappy with staying in Barcelona and getting little playing time every now and then. CdR games, etc. I still don't see a reason why the club couldn't/wouldn't offer him an extension. Would it kill them to have an extra player available in the squad? In his situation, I doubt Abidal would give anyone shit about not getting a lot of playing time.

Too bad. Abidal could have been part of a good centre back / left back rotation. And I would assume cheaper than buying star centre back x. If he got health problems again, then of course it would make sense to end his playing career. But until then, I would have kept him. The summer warm up matches would have told us a lot.

He was good untill the bad thing happened in his life. But now everything changed he won't be good as he was. So we should sell him and quit being emotional because we can't take the risk of expecting him to reach his good level.

I still rate him better then alba defensively .

Agreed. Defensively, its not even a fair comparison. Abidal is miles ahead of Alba. He's one of the reason Barca were so successful in the past few years due to his defensive coverage while Alves ran forward. In fact, if we don't buy another defensive minded full back then it won't matter how many world class CBs we get or how many goals Messi and Neymar score, we will be in the exact same boat defensively next season. Shame to let him go, cheap option and brings depth on defense which is exactly what this team needs.

Start Montoya. Problem solved.

I hope you're right but I'm still not convinced by him.

And unfortunately, as long as we have Alves, they will not start Montoya over him.

Montoya did really well in the first half of the season, especially in the clasicos. He didn't do quite as well in his few games in the second half, but considering he had so few games, I don't blame him.

And unless we find a way to make the 2 attacking FBs thing work (maybe have them take turns attacking or something?), I think Alba/Montoya would be a much better pairing than Alba/Alves.

I agree. No matter how much I love Abi, I don't think there's a place for him in the team anymore.
Hopefully he will come back after his career.

Yeah, it's a shame, but 34 is a tough age at which to return from illness and play to a high level. Romance is not going to get us where we want to be
