Abidal wanted to stay. Every player in the squad probably wanted him to stay. The fans probably all want him to stay. Common sense would suggest Tito wants him to stay. It goes without without saying, it's a "duh, of course Tito wants him to stay". Tito has also worked with him these past 5 years and he himself is fighting a life threatening illness and having Abidal around would make his job motivating the players easier, combine that with his comments and it seems almost obvious that he wants him to stay.
There is a possibility that Tito wants a smaller squad. But I just don't see it. I also don't see Zubi wanting him out either. What I see is the board decided that they are getting a new CB and they don't want to have Abidal on the wage bill.
