Eric Abidal

Abidal wanted to stay. Every player in the squad probably wanted him to stay. The fans probably all want him to stay. Common sense would suggest Tito wants him to stay. It goes without without saying, it's a "duh, of course Tito wants him to stay". Tito has also worked with him these past 5 years and he himself is fighting a life threatening illness and having Abidal around would make his job motivating the players easier, combine that with his comments and it seems almost obvious that he wants him to stay.

There is a possibility that Tito wants a smaller squad. But I just don't see it. I also don't see Zubi wanting him out either. What I see is the board decided that they are getting a new CB and they don't want to have Abidal on the wage bill.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
I think it was actually the decision by Zubi and Rosell, most likely due to finances and freeing up space for future players (youth or transfers).

I think I actually will get the new jersey with Abidal on the back. Whoohoo! :hooray:

We all know Rosell is all about the finances, but something doesn't make sense as XMG said... If anything this was a perfect opportunity to make financial profit...

1. Renew Abidal
2. Rosell has thight bonds with Nike
3. Nike is Abi's sponsor
4. Create public campaign along with Nike about fighting Cancer (similar to the one with Lance Armstrong)
5. Sell wristbands, t-shirts, hats, etc.
6. Show involvement in fighting Cancer, the club can even ask Unicef to join the campaign
7. Mes que un club motto gets a massive boost as does club popularity
8. ???
9. Neymar
10. Profit!!!

I have been pondering this myself and the conclusion I came to was that maybe its an insurance/liability thing. Could you imagine the bad publicity Barca would recieve if something terrible happened to Abi and they knew the risks never mind the legal implications.

I know, right! And besides, he still looks better at defending, after receiving treatment for cancer twice, than all of our current defenders (which is actually very sad).

The only flaw in your plan is Abidal wears Adidas now

Great plan but it seems that the board doesn't see it that way. Sometimes I have the feeling that some of the members here would do a better job at Barca.

That run vs Malaga....

Abidal is still fit, and when he is fit, he is by far our best CB. I still can't believe he's gone. :(

Was I just imagining things or did he seem physically stronger than his first appearance after the transplant. Like he'd put on weight again?

He is the best defender at the club, but clearly they dont see him as being able to physically handle the top level anymore.

It is simple as that.

Yep.

They also see Adriano as an ideal CB.
