Yes, it does. The club lied and his exit was wrong on many levels. It happens, but you cannot say they are right. They should had kept their mouths shut and make no promises, if they had no intention of keeping it.

It doesnt. They could have just not played him and let him go.

Why would they not play him, if he was fit? Just to get rid of him? That would be actually a worse thing to do. Both things are disgusting, either way.

If they were thinking it was unlikely that he would ever play regularly at the top level then they could have not played him so it did not look like they were going back on their word.

Going back on their word was not seen as important as Abidal getting a fair chance to prove his fitness.

They clearly played him when he was not fit, he was taken off at half time the last game he started.

Those excuses are just terrible. Freixa said he would be offered a new contract if he played again. He never mentioned top level. I don't care what they think, you shouldn't make promises if you have no intention of keeping them. Abidal was mistreated on this, there's no two ways about it. After he managed to play again, they first left he hanging, he waited a lot to get a response from the club. And when he got one, not only he found out he had been lied to, but he was not given a proper and clear reason to why he wasn't going to be renewed. And I'm out, if you're ok with all this, you probably think the same way sandro and zubi do.

OK so even though they decided that he has no future at the club they should offer him a contract as they dont want to break their word?

That benefits no one. A 34 year old that wants to play again not being able to as club dont believe he has a future and a a club who has signed a player on a contract they have no intention of using.

Who benefits from that?

Abidal's situation is understandable on both sides. Management thought his cost-benefit is high risk hence was not offered an extension. Abidal is moving on with a less stressful life style, I reckon.

Either way, much hate to see him leave. We will miss the person and the player of Abidal.

Just as much high-risk is Adriano, the man of glass who can't properly play a match without getting injured. And what does he get? An extension to 2017. Screw this shit, like said before the decision to let Abidal go is wrong in MANY levels. But most of all it defies 'mes que un club', which hurts me the most.

Read in the newspaper today that Abi would like to join Bayern and Pep wouldn't mind having him on the team. Speculative at the moment and I think Bayern is well stocked in defense, but he would be great backup, as he would have been for Barcas defense. Although he played just one game over full time after his injury, he didn't seem slow or overstrained. In fact, he basically played like he paused just a couple of weeks. Hard to understand Barca's decision, but of course his decision is understandable.

He could be a good choice for Bayern in defense specially with Badstuber is injured again and will be out for more 6+ months.
