Erling Haaland

Isn't the release clause only 75 or 80m? Dortmund would be fools not to cash out on him this summer for double the amount to only get pennies on the dollar for him next season if indeed Haaland does have a binding release clause in his contract. Also not as if Dortmund will be contending for anything if they keep him for one more season.

Depending on the offer I guess, if it doubles the release clause or more it might entice Dortmund to entertain the idea of selling him this summer or it might not, I'd like to think they want to hold on to him for one more season from the sporting perspective, losing Haaland without properly replacing him next season might seriously put their CL spot in danger, even with Marco Rose in charge. From our perspective since we are short on money, we probably can't afford to put forward an offer that high, we might want to wait a year to get our finances and house in order and sell some players first. Even next year the fee won't be just 75m or whatever his release is, there will be other hefty fees since it is Raiola that we will be dealing with.

To me, realistically speaking I think we can start laying all the ground work, such as approaching Dortmund and using Laporta's connections to signal to Raiola and Haaland our serious interests etc. (we are not allowed to talk to them right now, right?) and put ourselves in a better position to compete for him next year.

Any news breaking from Haaland's camp? Does he fancy a move in the summer? With no release clause there, Dortmund takes a large piece of the cake which he and his agent could get. We're potentially talking tens of millions.

Despite Laporta having more time to lay the groundwork for Haaland's signing if it were to be next year I still think it would be easier to pull off in 2021 logistically. At a 75m release clause there will be 10 clubs in for him and Raiola will be able to start a bidding war on his client's wages, agent fees, etc. The compensation to Dortmund would be less, yes, but we would be going up against many more clubs and our odds of landing him go down significantly.

Also how much better will our finances really be a year from now? I don't see the tourism industry and full stadiums being a thing again until well into 2022. Haaland is a generation defining player. 75m or 150m are both small amounts for him. Take a loan, sell half the team or whatever it takes to bring him in. Don't want to be Madrid who didn't move on Mbappe early when they had the chance.

10 clubs are interested in him . 5 submitted blank check.

Doubt that PSG,City, and Liverpool who are better options are not in those.

Hope so Laporta can manage something with Raiola.

A year from now our finances should at least be better than right now, although not optimal. Our match day revenue will not be zero, even though not to the pre-COVID levels, for one thing. Also it will buy us time to restructure and refinance our debt and sell players.

On your first point, if it is as simple as throwing money at Dortmund to get them to sell Haaland this summer, then I guess we won't be the only club doing that, others will do that as well. It will be a bidding war too this year.

PSG will surely offer more money, but is he interested in them? French league doesn't sound like the most exciting option for a player of his caliber who has this type of options on his table.
Ciry are legit.
Liverpool aren't better option, they are already a declining team and probably no CL for them next year, and they have financial trouble as anyone. They aren't really in the race for any star next summer.

Why do people keep throwing Liverpool in there? They're a tight club and don't pay high wages he ain't going there.

They run a very tight ship and I don't know why people are including them too. When was the last time Liverpool made some big star signing? I recall all of their signings being somewhat lowkey. Even Mo Salah was not that huge in Roma before he came.

Thiago??? Aldo Van Dijk is a big signing with 75 millions (not a big name pre Liverpool though).

Thiago is not a star signing to me. Compared to our star/galactico signings it's not. When you compare them to us, RM, Man U, Chelsea, City, they do more lowkey signings. I'm not gonna mention FC Germany aka Bayern because entire league just gives them players.

What Laporta is doing great, if the rumors are true, is establishing to the Halaand camp that Barcelona really want him badly. You are always a bit biased for the ones who show they value you the most. Smart move.

It's almost like a kind of courtship.

Would fit perfectly to Man City. Pep likes fast players who press hard and have a good work rate. He would be a perfect replacement for Aguero. The final missing puzzle. Haaland to City and the CL is theirs.

I understand the allure/obsession with the player but I will not be disappointed should we fail to sign him. Bigger issues will be shedding the dead weight & salaries, having a comprehensive & tenable sporting plan on how to improve the squad with the new board & convincing Leo to extend

From there, there will always be targets of preference - even a lower tier prospect like Isak could pay big dividends in a balanced squad
