Ernesto Valverde - V1

Anyway, this is on EV and his rookie mistakes.
He has never managed a team fighting for a CL.
He has never managed a team fighting for 3 trophies.
He has never managed Messi and similar players who don't want to get rotated.

We paid the price tonight.

Do you want him to stay or not? If not, who would you go with?

Every team runs more than us, unfortunately all we do in training are rondos and we aren't even good at keeping possession anymore

Its not only the kilometers it is also the anaerobic capaciy. We dont run enough (teams like peps barca or peps city dont run much because the sprint an awful lot both to press and when they attack) but we also do not sprint all, our pressing is miserable and our distance covered is pathetic. I think the factor is the number of senior players in the team. Too much players in their thirties make us play in a casual style. Of course there is the deny by the fans with the usual excuses, namely (I know them by heart): saving ourselves to the important game, messi saving himself for the world cup, we are pacing ourselves for the season is long, we do that to prevent injuries, there is no need to etc.. the fact of the matter is we were pretty casual today at 3-0 lol.. i hope to god todays game would put those greek
myths to death. Peps teams play with huge intensity all season long with no problem at all. We have seen that with barca 2009 and i have seen it today in the rerun of city-liverpool where only the ref,the post and some oddities stood between pep and him towering over liverpool in the first half.

I see only one concrete solution, reducing the average age in the stating eleven, significantly, and maybe giving more attention to the physical aspect of the game. Sometimes it pisses me off when i see our own players running like zombies from the walking dead. Talent alone can only take you so far.

Just what I thought players looked like. Could be wrong but no fight about them.

Ah, okay. Thought you'd heard something. Yeah, no fight, no passion, no nothing. Players have to take a lot of responsibility. That said, it all depends on manager and their philosophy imo. Show you believe, and players will too.

It is very strange for a professional coach to play 2 up top with no pace out wide against a 3 men backline and not chance anything through 90 minutes.

4-4-2 was countered by 3 men defensive setup which was countered by 4-2-3-1, that's basic football history knowledge.

3 defenders vs. 2 up top gives you a spare man at the back against the 2 forwards and allows you to use one or two extra midfielders. Busquets, Roberto, Iniesta (physically extremely weak players) pressed to death by Nainggolan, De Rossi, Strootman, Kolarov which forces Messi and Suarez to try and bring down long balls.

Fascinating how easy the concept is. Fascinating how Valverde's first reaction was subbing Gomes for Iniesta in the 81st minute.

He should deliver the domestic double and then step aside on good terms on his own.

FUCK! still can't believe what I witnessed today...

EV deserves to be fired tonight for this abomination.

I can understand this, but at the same time I am so tired of Barca's friendly way of going about their dealings. Seems like every coach is allowed to leave on their own terms, ending with good relations with the club and a relationship intact. We also let players choose which club they prefer to go to when they want to leave and also have no problem giving our current players huge wage increases to keep them happy.

I feel at some point we need to start being more ruthless as a club and stop catering to everyone to avoid harming relationships.

Clubs like Bayern, Madrid are ruthless when necessary, why can't we be like that too?

What claims would that be?

Rich coming from you for amount of shit you spout.

Shit I spout? You say this even now? When I was right all along that he was just another mediocre coach who doesn't know what he is doing and it got proved that he was exactlythat all along?

And the claims would be your constant defence of EV of how he knows what he is doing, how we were always in control in games like chelsea, sevilla etc where we were dire and it was all Ev's masterplan to not attack and how there was nothing wrong with barca and we all were just RM bootlickers and hypocrites etc etc. It would be a good time to lay low although I know a guy with your ego will find it tough to.

Haha where have I said Barca 'were always in control vs Chelsea and Sevilla'.

Making things up again...

Lay low if you are going to make such things up and are getting a bit giddy about Barca being eliminated.

EV was one step behind tactically. 3 at the back + a flood of midfielders in the middle is exactly how Chelsea managed to contain and outplay/outpress us in the first leg.

The 4-4-2 encourages the opposition team to settle into lines. It keeps Iniesta and Busi out of the zones where they're most effective, breaking the press and breaking the defensive lines. Busi from We had no 1v1 dribbling threat out wide, no pace, we weren't even building up the wings at all which is what the main point of a 4-4-2 is offensively.

The game changed so much when we brought Dembele in and changed the emphasis. For a minute there it looked like we were gonna score. It's the shape that we've played with for years and the shape that was best for us in many games this season as well.

The silver lining in all this is that we should have some significant squad upgrades for the CL next season, and the tactical issues that need fixing are pretty rudimentary. Don't think EV is the one to do it though, seeing as how the players have given up on his 4-4-2 philosophy and he's hardly shown any tactical intelligence over the season.

But the question is who else is there?? Can't think of any available manager who'd be an ideal fit for us at the moment.

I liked EV till tonight.

I have no idea whether he should stay or leave.
Because we don't know what the board wants and what our fans want.

I just can't understand an obssession with a CDR and I don't want to get into it again.
But if the board or fans require from our team to play a CDR each year with 100%, then we'll always be in a disadvantage over Real.

Further:
1. will we follow Barca's DNA, Barca's classical style and Pep's legacy?
2. or will we move on and follow some of RM's, EV's or different ideas?

Further:
1. if we'll follow classical Barca's ideas, we are fucked either way, we are outdated
2. if we'll try something new, HOW to try something new when our team is built around short players for Pep's style and our new signings are short Cou, short Arthur, short Griezmann and light, fast and taller Dembele?

Not to mention: what position will Messi play and can he be rotated from time to time?

So, you see, we don't have any clear direction.
We are a total mess.

1. if you want to try a new path, then we need to sell a lot of our current players to buy players for a different, multi dimensional tactics.
But that won't happen.
2. if you want to stick with current players on long contracts, how to move on since all they can play is Pep's legacy style?
3. as mentioned above, how to move to a new style when new signings are classical Barca's sigings (short and technical players) plus we have a current rooster built for Pep's style

If we'll play Cou, Dembele, Griezz next season, our team will have even weaker midfield, weaker defense.
And better attack, but again, one dimensional classical Barca's possession style attack.

If we want a new path, we would need a coach who will offer some new ideas, but also, we would need 2-3 years to sell 10 of current players, who are not suitable for any other style than Pep's style.

In short: I don't have too much faith that we will change too much in the next 2-3 years.
Not to mention that if we pick a new path and if you sell 10 players and then the first season end as a failure, people will whine: we need to go back to our roots, to Barca's DNA style of play.
Then you'll need to sell all new players and you made a mistake for selling players who weren't suited for a new style.

So, we'll just probably play classical Barca's style, with some minor changes like under Tata, Lucho and EV and no significant changes will happen.
I am not expecting us winning a CL anytime soon with that approach.

So, it is not even about whom we will hire.
We need to answer 100s of different questions and choose our longterm path.
But since majority of fans want to stick with a classical Barca's/Pep's way, there is no much room for changes...

EV deserves to be fired tonight for this abomination.

While it might appear to be rash, firing him now might actually be a good decision for us going forward.

Accelerate the process of rebuilding for next season and beyond. We've got to be bold and not afraid to make changes when necessary.
