Ernesto Valverde - V1

He is so out, there is now way you can "manage" the most shameful UCL elimination and live another year.

Good riddance.

What about Michael Laudrup as coach

The only former Barcelona player that is good enough to manage this team is Pep Guardiola and he's not coming back.

Laudrup, Koeman, de Boer etc. are not good enough. Barca DNA and being a former Barcelona player have absolutely nothing to say if you're not good enough.

Some of the cules here praising EV 2 months ago (GOATVerde etc) now screaming for his head on a plate .. You are so pathetic and childish!

Bad night for the club and for everyone. Was it down to tactics? Maybe you didn't watch the game at all. No Barca player (bar Ter Stegen), including Messi, showed up on the pitch. They didn't win a single battle during the game. They were just absent, while Roma looked like playing with 14 men, they were everywhere and winning all duels.
Its 100% down to the players (bar Ter Stegen), and 100% down to the part played by EV in not motivating the players enough. Everyone underestimated Roma, approached this game as another normal boring day at work. Not the right attitude for CL quarterfinals no matter the name of the opponent.
All other discussion about tactics is just stupid. you can only discuss tactics when the players play the game, not when they are mentally just at a parallel universe.
No bad tactics will get Barca being humiliated in this game (84% of the simulations and winning it 4%. This is out of a Barca - Ludogorets game. Not possible given any tactical standards)

It was by far the worst performance of the year by any standard, right out of last year's CL away games (PSG, Juve). And that's the issue the club should seriously look on long-term basis. The only serious thing stated today was by Busquets: We should find out how to become stronger in knock out ties. Since Pep left, our place in the semis is not secure at all, but we are just bad in dealing with knock-out ties and away games especially, even when Pep was here.
Look at all our away knock-out in CL results since 2008:
Lyon D, Bayern D, Chelsea D/ Stutgart D, Arsenal D, Inter L/ Arsenal L, Shaktar W, Real W/ Leverkusen W, Milan D, Chelsea L/ Milan L, PSG D, Bayern L/ City W, Atletico L/ City W, PSG W, Bayern L/ Arsenal W, Atletico L/ PSG L, Juve L/ Chelsea D, Roma L
26 games: 7 wins, 8 draws, 11 losses. Horrendous record.
Even during Pep's era only significant away win was against RM 0-2, and then against a Shaktar (after a 5-0) and a Leverkusen.
The only season we looked really confident and able to win anyone away from home was 14-15. We lost to Bayern in Munich, but could have won that if we played the first game away. Other than that, the issue is clear here..
Is it a mentality issue? Is it an issue with this competition (CL) in particular? Is it an issue with approaching knock-out ties? People should really look into that so that next year we will start taking seriously the knock-out phase of this competition.

PS: some already discussing managers (tuchel, sarri). You are just laughable . Let Xavi take over! He will do a good job (like when he was interfering with Martino's job, thinking he is a coach already, and not having realized we were not playing Pep's football anymore). Let Pique take over, who thinks he knows more than EV , while being abysmal on the pitch and making Dzeko look like Gert Muller and Romario together

I was becoming impressed with allegri until the last 2 debacles of juventus v madrid due to his insistence on a 2 man midfield. I'm not sure if that's a product of juve's limited squad or stubborness. anyone think he might be worth a punt?

honestly, in the wake on our shameful elimination, it's gone under the radar that pep lost home and away to a midfield of no names from liverpool. He's been having explosive starts to the season and spectacular meltdowns for some years now (much like us last 3 seasons). I'm not sure the pretty football is going to be enough at some point.

Here comes the defenders......

Yeah, we did not lose because Valverde played a slow 4-4-2 without any wingers against a 3 man backline and stepped away from what every big club does. Kill the game. He went small club mentality trying to defend the lead even at 2-0, didn't make any changes whatsoever and when he did, he brought on Andre Gomes who's usually soft and only knows how to commit fouls.

I'm against the "whole former player, Barca DNA" concept as well, but it's not like Valverde was even a true Barca figure anyways.

He played two seasons for the club and made barely over 20 appearances in that time. He has as much Barca DNA in him as Vidal or Paco.

can't wait for vidal's famed 4-4-2 in the distant future. Barca DNA indeed.

Imagine Douglas becoming Barca's coach in the future because he has Barca DNA :DD

Yeah , no one performed untill he put in Dembele and changed tactics. Did you watch the last 10 minutes of the game? Also, its up to the manager to make them perform right? If the players boycott the manager who gets sacked, the players ?

Imagine Douglas becoming Barca's coach in the future because he has Barca DNA :DD

Bartomeu is capable of making it happen .

Birdy Utterly useless post

I have been criticising EV, since the past few months and the way he's handling things has been nothing but slipshod and abysmal. Dont forget it's not "one bad performance", we have been outplayed by smaller teams and the scoreline doesnt necessarily translate into good performances. They are often swept under the carpet because ppl dont see the problems in matches but only care abt the scoreline. Results will never be produced consistently this way and it will nvr last. You would think Valverde will bring u the league let alone the treble next season? Dream on.

Today is the day when luck ran out and the shitty tactics have been exposed entirely. Even if we did manage to scrape past Roma, we would still go on to lose badly against Liverpool, Bayern or Madrid. Same story.

The difference is that we have a 3 goal lead against the opponent, and to bottle that entirely is unforgivable for a supposedly "potential world class coach". He didnt prepare properly for the Roma game, kept playing Pique for no fking reason, Roberto has been overplayed for no reason as well. Not enough rest, intensity. And not like we are winning against small teams when he keeps using key players, we are still struggling and clearly this is something wrong. Sevilla would have been Roma today if it wasnt for their poor striker. So many times EV's tactics isnt working.

And if a coach as clueless as him decides to play defensive with offensive players like Iniesta, Busquets, Rakitic in an open game where an away goal would have sealed the deal, then u deserve to be sacked.

No one said Pique will be a better coach than professional coaches. But ultimately, this coach doesnt suit at a club like Barca, he has an entirely different philosophy and the players we have here just doesnt suit him. His obsession with Gomes is clear for all to see.
