Ernesto Valverde - V1

Half of you would want us to win trophies but you are bitching when we don't play like we did during Xavi and Iniesta era! I would also like to watch that Barca from Pep's era again but the reality is it won't happen any time soon. Just accept the fact that tiki-taka period is over.

On the other side we have enormous problems!!!! We need to incorporate Messi, Coutinho, Suarez, Dembele and probably Griezmann. Every single player out of those 5 would be a star player in EVERY team in the world. We have one of the best DM players in the world (Busi), we have fantastic two CB's, we have great LB and we have one of top 3 goalkeepers in the world right now! Let's talk more about the FIRST WORLD problems!!! Rakitic also had a brilliant season so far but again 90% of people here see only how he is not on the level of Xavi or Iniesta. Half of this forum is also bitching when a 20 year old kid who was injured for 5 months doesn't start in every single game?! He ONLY started in 6 out of last 8 games!!! What a terrible terrible treatment he has!!!

We had a truly terrible season with only 2 trophies! We still didn't lose a single game in La Liga! Can it get any worse?!?!?! The horror!!! There is no hope left!!! Dear Lord save us, we are doomed!!!

Have you seen "The Nut Job" movie? Very good movie and I recommend to you if you haven't watched it yet.

A purple squirrel named Surly finds himself helping his park community after winter food cache being destroyed, and another grey squirrel named Grayson, an idiotic squirrel who has a false reputation for being the park hero and always takes credit for Surly's heroic jobs.

What are you aiming exactly at? If this is about Messi being responsible for the entire success I can partially agree on that but name ONE manager who managed Barca in the era of Messi whose career wasn't significantly improved by Messi? How many CL has all mighty Pep won without Messi?

I never implied that Valverde is a perfect manager for us, I also don't like the guy and I would be much happier with a manager like Tuchel but to be fair this season was a bit more complicated than it looks right now. In the begging of season we lost Neymar, than we bought Dembele who injured himself immediately, and than he injured himself AGAIN, not to mention form of Rakitic was horrendous, not to mention Suarez was awful for the first 3 months, not to mention we bought Coutinho in December. He inherited broken team from Enrique. A team without Neymar, one year older Iniesta and with injured Dembele so we were much weaker in that moment and that's a fact.

There are always two sides of the story and this season is a success whether you like it or not. Roma game was a disaster but to be fair players are also responsible for that since they were already in SF with their mind. That game should not be forgotten but let's be fair if that game was played again for 10 times I am sure we would never lose 3-0 again. That game was not about players quality or tactical mistakes but rather about underestimating your opponent.

We have a plan: we try the same scheme, the same tactics every year, a replica of the last 10 years, without noticing that our opponents know us and that soccer has changed, has evolved. It's incredible how stubborn we are and we don't have the courage to change.
No Iniesta ? ok no problem, Coutinho in, same tactics. No Neymar ? ok, no problem, Dembele in, same tactics, and so on......
We have to stop looking dreamy at the golden era that was.

Couthino, Dembele, Messi, Suarez, maybe Griezmann........ no idea how EV (or other coach) will fitt these playser in the team, even with the 10 years old tactic.
For instance imo we need a tower as center forward.
And 11 players, 1 unit: everyone runs, bleeds, fights like warriors. If I look at Roma, Liverpool, even RM,...... we look like lambs with the speed of snails.
What are you talking about?

Tactically speaking Barça's EV is completely different from Lucho's Barça which is also different compared to what pep proposed.

There is a variety of ways to play a 433

Only slightly. Variations on a theme.

Pep's Barca was heavy possession football, Lucho could counter, Valverde wants to be more stable and balanced... but the principles are the same. We still attack only through the middle, still can't cross and are physically weak. What has really changed?

Of course, there are many ways to play 4-3-3, it's not about formations, it's about players' capabilities. We couldn't cross if our life depended on it.

You are talking about two sides of the story but you actually ignore the other side. True that we were surrounded by bad circumstances of Neymar exit, Dembele's injury and Suarez/Raki off form, but we got compensated with a fine form from Messi AND bad 6 months of football from our direct rivals Real and ATM. So without Messi's beast form, we could've been fucked and without a bad start from Real and ATM, we could've been fucked too. So what did Valverde adds to above scenario? Nothing. The fact when Messi's form started to decline around March and April + Real picked up their form and we needed other ideas. Valverde didn't have any and he was clueless. Roma's exist was one of most embarrassing exit in the history of Barcelona's football.

It seems some members here subconsciously enjoy watching our team suffer while others try to find solutions. This team could dominate for another 3-4 years (Messi's last years) just by changing few things. A. WC coach who play football suitable for Barcelona, B. WC midfielder to balance this team. Really, I think we choose to suffer for no reason.

Again I don’t disagree with you in general but finding a WC coach and a WC midfielder who would walk in our first 11 is a bit complicated right now. Some of you talk like we can pick those two from a shelf. It’s really not that easy. Either they are unavailable or it’s questionable if they would succeed here.

While we played our best football under Pep I prefer the Rijkaard style. He played attacking football with minor tweaks depending on the opposition. He was not afraid to promote youth or have physicality when necessary.

Rijkaard is Barcas most understand figures ever.

I would love to see Allegri here. He is proven at the highest level.

Classico is a perfect exemplification of how narrow-minded some EV critics have been all year long:

- First half, for some reason EV decides (on purpose?) to let the team do what the cules want: go out and press over the whole pitch, go out all-attack.
The outcome: we were completely battered by RM, and lucky not to go into half-time 1-3 and totally humiliated
- Second half, with 10 vs 11, we go back to what the team has been doing most of the season. And not only we manage to sustain, but we are ten times more threatening than what he have been all first half, and on the top of that we come as a better side for that half with a man down!!

So, yeah, definitely it's EV's fault that we have been distanced from our roots.
Then, keep that video of the first half, play it every now and then, and think where we would have been this season if we have been playing like that

We all knew it, but a confirmation from Fraud Central that Valverde will be coach next season.

The roma humiliation was just an eye opener for some barca fans, but for the board it will take a lot more than that it seems.

If he said Ev won't be sacked it wouldn't have been bad enough but saying that it didn't cross his mind implies the board doesn't know jackshit about the reality of our current situation. They are just blinded by the domestic double.

Trust me dont worry for the board their eyes are wide open. It just that they have other objectives than us typical fans.

I have never seen so many blind posters in any other forum but this. One of the issues of EV's plan was Coutinho in an unorthodox role, once he is gone (replaced after Roberto's red) we played much better. EV was forced to make a change and introduce Semedo and Paulinho and switch to 4-3-2. What we played in the second half was obviously not part of his original plan.
