Ernesto Valverde - V1

DonAK

President of FC Barcelona
He'll probably get the semi in CL, because United is not even half as good as Barcelona. I'd bet on a loss vs Liverpool, so he'll do just about as good as his quality as a manager allows him to. Very slim chances he wins the CL, considering there are 3 comparable teams out there with much better managers.

I think the pressure in CL on Barca was put by Madrid mostly. Don't think such a big deal would've been made if Madrid hadn't won the last 3.

His contract runs out after the next season. There's an option of an additional season, but I doubt the club takes that if they feel Cardoner chances in the elections are going to get compromised.

Yea, safer bet is that next season will be the last for Ernie. 3 years is about the max. period lately with our managers.

Anyway, it's gonna be harder and harder to maintain the same firm hold on the domestic front. There's already massive pressure on Madrid to win La Liga next year.

we were significantly stronger in 2009 and 2015.

Huh? I know... Significantly stronger but the run in no way near as straightforward. What was wrong about that?

2009 and 2015 Utd, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern etc, all much stronger and had to get passed them to win the CL, this season it's an ageing Juventus side and City who've won fuck all in Europe.

2009 Chelsea was more like current Manu tbh, a struggling team that hired a new coach midseason. It was Hiddnick outcoaching Pep that made it so comlicated. before them we played a bad Bayern, and average Lyon side. Can't say this one is easier than 2009 at all
Current Juve is probably as strong as 2015 too. Liverpool is terrific in CL and in their day is as strong as anyone. City seem to be able to change their fortune in CL.
This isn't an easy CL, not at all.

Come on... how can you compare 2009 Chelsea with this United. It's night and day. 2009 Chelsea should've won the CL a year before. Same team almost.

Nevermind some of the best defensive players of their era.

Ronaldo himself named Ashley Cole the best defender he ever faced. Then you have beast Essien in midfield, Lampard, John Terry etc. And yeah, prime Drogba, who's like the no1 most troublesome player we ever faced.

Come on now, you yourself refuses to use CL alone deciding best team. They finished third that year. in the league They were far from being one of the best teams in the world

May be comparing them to current Manu is a bit harsh, but they aren't better than current Liverpool by any mean.

There is always a 3rd best team in any year. The point is comparing years.
Oh, and this was probably Drogba worst season in his Chelsea career

Well, comparing them with Liverpool is something else. But imo they were even better than Liverpool from today. What was it in the 1-1 in 2009? No shots on target for Barcelona up to that Iniesta goal. And we're talking about one of the best teams of all time.

It was that tie we should've lost during Pep, vs 2009 Chelsea, while we should've won both the 2010 vs Inter and the 2012 vs Chelsea. Luck in 2009 and unluck in 2010 and 12 was what really made it reversed.

We played bad, and we should have finished them in 1st game. And Hiddink outcoached Pep in that game (no shame in that). We are making judgement based on the potential opponent, not based on how each one played against us. Manu could beat us and win the CL with strong one at the end for all what we know.
People really overrating that Chelsea team because of this game, they weren't really that good and we made them look better than they are

2009 Chelsea would own the CL this year. Very strong team physically and personality wise. Drogba, Terry, Cole, Essuen, Ballack, Lampard. We got lucky in that semi at Stamford Bridge. Probably one of the most dramatic Barca games I've ever seen. They had their chances and didn't take them. We had one and took it. Otherwise they completely neutralized us. Even Pep thought we had lost, he was already congratulating Hiddinck.

To be fair, The ref robbed them. We got robbed vs inter next year. But not Chelsea in 12. We played bettet, but its not like ref was at fault. Still remember my huge dissapointment when messi missede The pen.

There wasn't a case of outcoaching. They had their known gameplan, we had ours. They were more effective at theirs for 180 mins. up until that Iniesta goal. Two elite but very different side who faced each other in a clasic. Far from today's tie with United, where Barca are heavy favorites.

Barca United from today is more like Barca - Lyon or Barca - Bayern from that period. United are the same profile as Bayern from 2009. Giant who is a shadow of its former self. If we had played this United in 2009 it would've finished with a trashing no doubt.
