Ernesto Valverde

If bayern can fire kovac after the doubl, which is even easier to win in Germany, why is this man this at our club?

The point is not to get a manager who is better than Valverde. We can do and still end up with decent one at best. We can bring Quique Setien tomorrow and we'd improve from Valverde, but the aim can't be as low as improving from a tactically weak manager like Ernie.

The point here is to get a top manager. Someone who'd be able to come up against the Klops and don't look amateurish by comparison. And for that we need someone who is 2 levels above Valverde. We have no access to A tier. We need to get a manager from the B tier. Valverde is C or D tier. That's good enough to win leagues by regularly smashing the teams in La Liga, but not nearly good enough for what we want to do in Europe.

The question is if Koeman is tier B, or he is just a new Valverde. We need someone who is at the very least as good as Lucho was to feel a serious improvement from Valverde. Lucho is the benchmark to improve upon in the next appointment, not fucking Valverde.

There is a risk that Koeman is just as Valverde, only with more discipline and tenacity. If he is not a big improvement over Valverde in the tactical area, then he is not the manager we need.

Question for you:

How do you think Lucho would do with this current squad and how do you think Valverde would have done with the 14/15 squad?

Valverde would've probably lost vs Pep's Bayern in the CL semis. Could've won the domestic double, but there's a serious chance he would've lost even the title to that very good Madrid under Ancelotti.

Lucho 2014-16 would've won the treble last year probably. Similar to the Bayern affair. Big home win on Camp Nou and scoring in England while losing, but qualifying.

Why are we arguing whether EV is worse than Lucho?
About "what Valverde would have done with the 14/15 squad?" the obvious answer is: "Lose 4-0 away from home probably to Bayern and get disqualified".

Lucho: score at Anfield and advance, even if we concede a few and lose the leg. Like Allianz.

Valverde: Capitulate at the Allianz, like at Rome and Anfield

Let's forget that Lucho had prime Suarez, Rakitic and Neymar and a better version of Messi, Pique. A better RB in Alves, a better all-around midfield and a squad which was at least a level or two above what we had in recent years.

Let's not forget that Valverde had a Barcelona team far superior to Roma, but still shit the bed.

We are still top three home town in the world, I would say that we are the best home team. The problem is away. And it was both under Lucho and Valverde. These embarrassing results away from home started a long time before Valverde. Remember the 4-0 PSG trashing? Way worse than Liverpool. And these problems will be there even with the new coach.

It’s a sign of mentally weak players, no winner mentality nothing. You can see that after so many embarrassments they have lost their hunger to fight when away games gets close.

Solution? We need a winner mentality in the club. It’s why our next coach must be great tactically and a great motivator. Basically juego de posicion Klopp.

It’s also something I have noticed with our fan base and club in general. We also need to have a perfect season to win the CL. Real no matter how bad they play are always contenders.

Valverdes press conferences are even more outrageous than our games. I have never seen a manager who radiates such a weak mentality.

So true. I believe we've always finished 1st in La Liga every time we won the Champions League. Real Madrid have won the CL several times where they only finished 3rd in the league.

Its not just that we win the league. They have to be historical good seasons. 08/09 + 14/15 the treble + arguably the best team ever in 10/11. And in 08/09 it was after a lucky Iniesta 90+ min goal.
The club in general lacks that fighting spirit when it gets really tough.

Just need a manager who's a winner. Valverde was and will always be the guy who's got that underdog story with him but he's not going to be a winner. He could be a great manager for any other team in the world thet doesn't aspire to winning the league, CL and the local cup every year. A manager that has "Valencia winners of Copa", "Everton getting 3rd place in the Premier League", "Lyon winning the French cup" in him but not FC Barcelona winning the treble im him.
