Ernesto Valverde

As much as I don't like EV, it can definitely be WAY WORSE than him.

EV is an average coach. Probably below average considering he has the GOAT and other star players at his disposal.

But there's always cases like Xavi or Henry or Neville out there who are nowhere near ready for a colossal club like Barca. Or Ole for that matter. Or Moyes. Or Kovac.

What we need is an out and out winner. Ten Hag please.

Henry would be an epic disaster! It would be a secure path to a final destruction. On the other side Xavi is definitely not ready, not even close. People who are saying that current version of Xavi is better than Pep are world class comedians.

Ten Hag would be a perfect choice but if we can't get him I would go with Koeman.

Oh, Henry could definitely surpass Valverde's accomplishments I have no doubt. Easily out of the CL group stages and 3rd in the League. This must be a joke rumor.
No logical person will say that it can't get worse than EV. When people say that, it's in the spirit of satire, in order to show how bad they want EV out. I hope..

I think that majority are dead serious when they say that it can't get worse than EV...

Imagine unironically comparing an era of Barca with Messi vs without Messi.

1. we had Rivaldo, Ballon D Or from 1999
2. the thing is that we had Van Gaal in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
He won La Ligas in 98 and 99 and finished 2nd in 2000.
But fans and media were never pleased with him due to his personality and because his football was somewhat cold, too tactical and without "Joga Bonita" and free-fun-football.
Results were awesome, but our football was too complicated, too tactical and too robotic for fans back then.

It can't get worse than that is quite similar to a current era.
** Van Gaal was also horrible in a CL, being KOd 2 times in 3 seasons in a group stage due to playing too attacking in Europe.

So, we changed a very good (but not perfect coach for Barca) who had very good results, but his football was NOT FUN for fans.
And we traded him for: "what if" options.

And then we had: Ferrer, Rexach, Antic, 3 seasons of misery where: "it can't be worse than this" options turned into=it actually got way worse than this.

I am not for keeping EV.
But I am for a new coach when a new coach will make at least some sense.
Options till now are:
1. Xavi who is horrible at Quatar, who is obsessed with possession and who said that Riki Puig would be a starter, lol. 1000s of red flags.
2. Gallardo, who has zero European experience and who is good only at knockout competitions for now.
3. Henry, who was horrible till now.
** Before someone mentions Pep or Rijkaard:
Rijkaard was Dutch NT coach at Euro 2000, and they played the best football on that tournament and lost in semis to Italy (after pens) after Netherlands missed 2 penalty kicks in the first 120 minutes.
Pep was an extreme case, but still: he was a captain of Barca and always talked and gave directions to players even when he was a coach.
Pep as a player looked way more as a future coach than Xavi, for example.
Pep was one of those "annoying" guys who talk and give instructions to teammates all the time.

So, when you sum it all: all current options are more likely to end as a Titanic than as: it can't get worse than this.
If we could hire Pep, Klopp or Ten Haag, fine.
But if options are Henry, Gallardo and Xavi, please: let's keep EV then. Since it will get way, way worse than this.

Beside i don't think EV will stay next season even if he wins the CL .

Now if we go by who can be available in the summer the list could be short.

Also assuming the board will go with an already established Manager & excluding Mourinho & Klopp for their contract situations

1. We can include Pep for fans service in this forum and he is on the Edge to get sacked unless he pulls some magic by the end of the season.

2. Ten Haq is definitely an option (hope he is not an ' I'm good only with Ajax guy ' )

3. Pochettino can't have a real POV on him, did a great job with the spurs tbh

4. A.Wenger ?

5. Please not Emery

6. Tuchel hard worker like Pochettino but will be eaten the likes of Pique i fear

7. Please not Koeman and if yes i hope i'm dead wrong about him

6racies Xavi
Look BBZ , I dont want a mediocre/shit coach getting replaced by another mediocre/shit coach. Thats just asking for trouble. I do agree that extreme cases like Henry or Xavi at this point could be worse than Valverde.

My issue with you is comparing another average coach or a coach from back in the days that doesn't/didn't have a Messi and unironically comparing him with Valverde who is riding on the coattails of Messi. It's silly.

Xavi would not be worse than Valverde. But yeah, it can get worse than Valverde, generally speaking.

It's like playing the loterie nobody knows for sure how Xavi will be as Barça Manager.

For the few years left on Messi's feet, it's better to go with a safer option no more fooling around.

After Messi is gone … god save us !

When Messi is done here, shit will fall apart as its now. I really don't get how we can't make any decent transfer at all

At this point, he probably would. Dude needs at least a modicum of serious league management before we take the gamble.

Lampard was quite insightful as a commentator for years and while Xavi easily has a higher football IQ, he's also substantially more rigid in his approach.

And has shown questionable decision making over the years. Qatar for starters.

This is the truth, If we keep making similar signings as last few years we will be in the shitter no matter what. You need the right coach and Players!
