Ernesto Valverde

I'm still waiting on him to take another job so we have an account of his performances outside of a 100 goals in 2 season Messi and a still great for LL Suarez.

Until that evidence is presented, I'm really not sure how he can be crowned elite. That's all there is to it.

Lucho was a better manager than EV.

But I don't understand your point. We haven't done a good job hiring managers in general after Guardiola left. We've probably had chances at landing an elite manager but didn't attempt to hire any.

That's on the last board.

Valverde being better than Setien, Tata doesn't make him a great or an elite manager.

well, if your point is that EV isnt on guardiola's level, well, of course--but i never claimed such a thing.

my point is that given the group of players at his disposal (the same as setien and koeman within the same time span--im not counting tata because he had a different first 11 with prime xavi and iniesta) he did much better than could have been expected, not only delivering back to back doubles but absolutely dominating RM in clasicos.

i wouldnt say EV is 'elite' as such, ie overall as a manager, but i do think that if we limit ourselves to his barca stint his success was indeed elite

I'm excited too, he will prove all his haters wrong. If he gets the Spain job after the WC you can bet your house on EURO 2024 Spain win.

It's reported that Marcelino is RFEF's alternative and priority if Lucho leaves his job.

Messi has proven himself under Rijkaard, Guardiola, Tito, Tata, Lucho. He didn't prove himself under Poch (ignoring the fact that he's actually a declined player).

5 to 1. Overwhelming evidence in favor of the former.

This easy enough for you?

by that logic messi hasnt proven anything because he only achieved in a stacked barca and a solid argentina and until he proves he can do it elsewhere he doesnt qualify as elite. which another way of walking into the old CR-fan trap of 'he has done it in other leagues'

if you will not deny messis elite status for his successful barca years but will discount his PSG stint then be fair and do the same with EV

consistency please!

Please stop this game now.

Messi has over a decade of elite play under different managers. You know that it is nonsense to compare him with Valverde's three year stint at Barca.

Like I said, he simply does not have the resume to suggest he's a great or an elite manager. Until he gets that there's honestly no discussion in my eyes.

He scored 40 plus goals and had 15 assists in his second worst season

And scored a hat-trick in Bernabeu El clasico

That's enough individual level success under a bang average manager.

Why do you even bother replying to him lol? He adds nothing to any discussion. At least OG and Rassvet when he's not trolling you can have a reasonable debate with. That guy is either parrotting what someone else is saying or repeating the same point half a dozen times until someone notices him.

Valverde isn't going to manage a top 5 club again. One who thinks that is delusional. Don't even see him managing Spain NT, not with the current young core.

 why EV haters get always mad when Ernesto Maestro get his deserved praise??
