European Super League

The biggest challenge for the ESL is probably what the UK government wants to do about the situation.

it's funny, as the premier league fans and politicians are the most vocal against the ESL. while over the last 20 years they've sold their top clubs to russian billionaires, sheiks or american magnates.

if UEFA gave them 6 CL places every year they wouldn't bat an eye lid and just come up with other bullshit like the top 8 or top 10.

“Boris Johnson met PL chief exec Richard Masters this morning. I understand the PM said whilst he is a staunch free marketeer, the ESL is ‘anti-competitive’, adding ‘we should drop a legislative bomb to stop it - and we should do it now.’ Boris prepared to unveil the new law in the Parlament.PL meeting ongoing.”

Looks like it will have to be scrapped at this point especially with all the governments and eu involved.

I wonder if ESL shame clubs expected the Government getting involved.

If you heard senile Perez yesterday, it's clear he is loosing his shit.
You can very much see that he genuinely thought everyone bar UEFA thought this was a great idea and would be fully on board with this. He didnt expect clubs, players, fans and even governments to revolt.
According to some reports 2 clubs are already considering their refusal saying they apparently didnt grasp what they signed up for. This is the idea of ~30 billionaires who are entirely out of touch with what people actually want..

MANCHESTER CITY are the club looking to pull out.

The club are in emergency crisis talks about the possibility of WITHDRAWING their name from the process.

An official announcement directly from the club is expected within 48 hours.

At the moment I'm not sure how much I believe this. I would LIKE to believe this, but you gotta be careful as many newspapers will currently report what people like to hear. If there's an announcement of City in the next 48 hours, then I'm sure ESL is done however.

Been busy this morning. Any good coverage/recap recommendation?

nothing happened really. just politicians and UEFA scrambling to come up with ways to counter the ESL.

also fans falling for this charade and crying about the 'death of football'. even though that happened long time ago. imagine city, chelsea or psg fans talking about integrity
