Am I the only one who thinks ?The Super League? is a really dumb name? Should?ve gone with something flashy or more arrogant like ?The Elite?.

Yeah it is considering Turkey and Denmark’s leagues are called that. Rugby League in the UK also called Super League.

What are you on about. No one watches the world cup because of the players. They watch it because their country is competing in it.

A lot of the top players play for teams that get knocked out in the first round anyway like Salah.

Spot on!!
Who cares about the players. It's about the teams and the legend. Germany vs Italy, England vs Argentina.
Really, who watches World Cup to see Mbappe and Griezmann. Only 12 year olds ,maybe and I doubt about that

Honestly, this is going to come off as harsh but this is textbook delusion.

I know. I couldn't give a damn about the players. Most of the so called top players have awful tournaments anyway because they are playing in teams without other world class players.

Ya not gonna lie most people in the US (a big casual market now in the sport) were watching it just to see Messi, CR7, and few others play. I've also met a lot of casuals here who place more importance on national competitions and national teams than clubs. We Americans are kinda weird.

Like Jadentheman said several pages back, it seems like these clubs started to realize they can get more money out of casuals from North America and Asia than those European fans who have been with them for 100 years.

Dont insult my friend KingLeo10 as a 12 years old kid !

30+ years old probably yes but the most kids today dont interest on countries, they just want to see Neymar, Mbappe, Salah, Messi, Ronaldo, De Bruyne etc.

You really the whole of Argentina isn't going to watch Argentina at the world cup if Messi and couple of players are missing.
The whole of England won't watch if they have to field a weakened team.
etc
etc

They won't like it. I don't like it either but they will still watch it and so will you.

That's like saying if a country gets a few injuries all of a sudden no one will now care in their country.

Not to mention, there's literally brigades of people here who have no allegiance to Argentina or Spain other than to watch Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Barca players win.

It's just how modern football is. Adversus and katzik are living in the 1950s football before RM started the foreign superstars model.

Also, I think it's possible that legally, the clubs can't be stopped from entering a new competition, as long as they respect all the rules imposed by the FIFA/UEFA competitions that they take part in. I don't think it's written anywhere in the rules and regulations that you can't participate in a non-FIFA or non-UEFA competition. And don't think it's legal to impose something like that, because FIFA/UEFA don't own football alltogether.

 So, I think theoretically, we could have CL and Superleague coexisting, with Superleague being done around the CL dates, so that the participants in Superleague would not breach the CL rules and draw hefty penalties in all competitions under FIFA ruling (including World Cup and such). But it would be a matter of time before the competitions will get into a conflict, and the penalties for breaching CL rules will be very drastic with zero tolerance.

Would be funny if the teams will play in both competitions and use subs in CL, and the real players in the Superleague to further undermine FIFA and UEFA. But it's all theoretical anyway.

Save football my ass. The most popular clubs on the planet that are financially sinking ships. It's not corrupt UEFA's fault those clubs have poor financial management for years now, COVID is just the latest chapter in this.

Perez is the leading villain in this movie, last night he cemented that status with that shit PR interview on TV.

This counts only for the argentinia people. People from other countries watch argentinia because of Messi.

Is the market for "soccer" really all that in the US though? I've met several americans, not one of them cares about it.

Is the interest for "soccer" growing at any significant rate over there?

Ya don't get me wrong I'm totally against this, but capitalism has a strong grip on the entire world now, not just the US. This is a consequence of globalization. I believe it's actually slightly changing European cultures too. The younger Europeans I've met in the US and Spain place more emphasis on work and making money than their parents/grandparents. Less about enjoying siestas and talking to your buddies for 3 hours during brunch and more about building a career and making money. Money talks, and unfortunately it's spreading across the Atlantic too.
