Track position stuff by Mercedes was really lame too earlier this race. Hamilton with fresh tyres with that raw engine power would wipe up 5+ seconds easily on Max with multiple laps. Heck Max struggled to keep up with Hamilton with fresh tyres after he first pitted.

Of course it is. FIA stayed consistent with their shit decisions and didn't make Hamilton give up the advantage he had.

No
They simply corrected a wrong with another wrong
Nothing to do with karma as Hamilton was originally hard done in Brazil so no karma working on Verstappen to win

They have allowed lapped cars to unlap themselves under a safety car all year, just as they did here.

No complaints
Makes sense. Although there's something to be said they didn't allow all of them to unlap

Mercedes really fucked up though, agree with that.

Yup

Yup

The major issue is, they won allowed the lapped cars BETWEEN P1 and P2 to overtake, not the ones behind Verstappen - which was the debate. Should they allow the overtake and let Lewis finish the race without any real racing, or not allow it and basically make it harder for Max to win? They chose a 3rd option which was allow only a selection of cars to overtake, handing Max the win.

It was a shit decision. They didn't follow protocol at all.

Decision was fine.
Just had to follow through but didnt entirely because they knew in the moment they're getting a 1v1 lap to end it
Clear political decision but unlapping should have happened regardless

I don't see how anyone can complain about the decision. If Hamilton fans want to complain they should cry about Mercedes not deciding to pit to change to a fresh set of tyres.

Formula 1 just disgraced themselves tonight.

Shout out to Lewis for hugging Verstappen because you just know if the roles were reversed, that would never happen.

Yup. Lewis called it a few times as well. Any safety car or red flag and his tyres will be leaving exposed. Too worried about losing track position but he has the better speed to win in a straight shoot out anyway.

Has protocol been followed or not?
Regardless of Merc mistake to not prepare for safety car

AFAIK they did follow protocol. They literally said it on Sky that they should allow the lapped cars to unlap themselves before FIA started flip flopping with their decisions, but I think they realized late that they could get one final lap of racing if they did so they went along with it in the end.

Can understand Merc being pissed, but their strategy errors have been costing them entire year.

That's not the argument as I understand
The argument is what Laplacian wrote - some slow ass cars were between Lewis (1st) and Max (5th or 6th), these were allowed to overtake safety car. There were however lapped cars BEHIND Max (in 6th-10th) which would have ended up between Lewis and Max on restart

Will have to look at it again, but they should allowed those cars in front too in that case.
