Fabricio Coloccini

I'm eager to see how the most consistent defender takes on the most profilic striker of the season thus far, in a fortnight. The Colo-Džeko duel is the one to watch out, for me. The longer in a game my man goes without scoring, the more his overall game suffers, but if he nicks an early goal, then its bye bye Colo. :)

But ofc this is subject to edin starting the game, as he has couple of crucial intls coming up, the playoffs against Portugal. While Colo will be well rested. I'm thinking Mancini 'll go for Balo/Aguero for this one. But i hope he starts Edin, cause i really want to watch this specific contest.

I'm going to be realistic. I have to be after champions Man Utd , got tanked 6-1 by Man City. I will be joyous with a clean sheet and a draw given the fire power city have. In all likely hood Newcastle will lose their unbeaten record. but given how well we are playing, it is possible we could surprise them.

Coloccini reads the game fantastically well, I'm sure he'll have a good game as he always seems to do. However players like Aguero, Balotelli Dzeko, Silva might have something to say about it. Given how big the game is being beamed world wide, I'm sure as Captain, Coloccini will be dertermined more than ever for Newcastle to remain unbeaten.

Santon started out very, very brightly....3 years ago. And fizzled to almost nothing. I know he's had his share of injuries but the potential seen in him has not in any way materialized (as of the end of last season). If anything, he's regressed.

thats what people have said.

however he only came back from serious injury last season didn't he? I've been told he has confidence problems and thats why he hasn't fulfilled his potential yet. that said he's still very young and has lots of time to improve as a defender. He's still captain of Itay-U21.

He's not been able to get in the Newcastle team because everyone is playing so well and we are winning. But the short appearances he's made, you can tell he looks a classy technical footballer.

Hsm. he did captain the U21s against Turkey, didn't he? Santon has technical skill, yes, but something happened last season (and the one before?) and I'm not sure exactly what the issue was. He's from the other side if Milano so I'm not totally up on the details. The inter guys prolly know.

yeah he did. he's probably going to captain them again during the international break if U-21's are playing at all.

Yeah inter fans I spoke to said he has confidence problems in his head or something.

He looks good from the handfull of minutes he's played for Newcastle, I hope he does well for Newcastle obviously, and that he realises his potential at St. James Park.

The only player that has a big future at Newcastle is... Santon. I only rate him. The other players aren't worth rating.

Fair enough.

However you really are overlooking a Center Back of the Highest Order in Coloccini. Just like you did with Jose Enrique.

Hatem Ben Arfa is definitely worth rating. especially if he fully recovers from that double leg break.

Haris Vuckic, is another one you should rate. He has a massive massive future ahead him. Unfortunate luck with injuries the last few years are all that have held him back, he made his Premier League debut against Fulham and broke his hand within like 15 minutes. He's an attacking midfielder/striker with some insane vision and passing as well as some superb finishing with his left foot. He's been closely watched by Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd and even had a trial at AC Milan as a 14 year old. He's going to be big.

There is a reason you guys have done fantastic on the defensive front, and Coloccini's leadership will continue to play a big part for the rest of your campaign. City play at home, so they have that advantage. But as long as your keep it organised at the back, and apply constant pressure, you'll give them a game. The likes of Fulham, Bolton and QPR have managed to do it to a lesser degree. Newcastle will be their first big test at home. With fatigue to some of city's imp players (returning from intl duty) and their best defender(Kompany) serving suspension, you guys could take something out of this.
Personally, as much as i love skills take its course, i equally relish a contest of man power on a football pitch. And i think the Colo-Edin duel promises to 've something in it for the lady. :p

It should be a good contest indeed. I don't see Newcastle United losing without putting up a fight given how we've played this season.

We'll take a humping against City. Our defensive solidity rests a lot on the two in midfield and if they're both out we'll really struggle.

Aye Tiote plays his part very well, we keep the ball so well when he's on the pitch. I hope he's fit in time. Cabaye too, he works hard.

Coloccini is still a colossus and he showed that with no tiote and no cabaye on the weekend.

I really think we can pull off a draw though.

I've waited years and years to have proper central midfielders, having rubbish ones was the reason we went down.

The workrate and covering of ground of those two is half the reason we've been so successful. Outside of Coloccini the defense is very limited, but you've got a winger like Jonas who acts as almost a 2nd fullback and two in midfield who do so much work in protecting the back four. Add to that a disciplined defensive shape and an understanding born out through continuity and you have a defensive side that is functioning way beyond the sum of their parts. It's been very refreshing but I'm worried that the workload will mean burn-out and injuries that will bring us crashing to a hault.

aye, eveyrone working hard for eachother. Even more reason for some cautious optimism for the City game.

I think you could knick something off City, I really do.

Tiote is a class act too. Wouldn't mind him at United one bit.

oh well, we lost the unbeaten run. 2 penalties and a mistake cost Newcastle 3 goals.

we still have the best defence in the league in terms of least goals conceded. just sharing it with Man City now. that is until chelsea put 1 past liverpool tomorrow.

Coloccini had yet another good game. Commentator has a problem with him, saying Coloccini was lucky with two offsides, they were clearly offsides he was stepping up and playing for. he had another good game.

Now for Man Utd next week.
