nope, he still has dinosaurs around him

You can not blame anyone if you are supposed to be the one that push the midfield forward.

De Jong has not done yet. Not even close.

Busquest played a brillant pass to Dest but he missed that chance. De Jong barely play any kind of that pass. His dribbling doesn't help him in Laliga either.

Im sure if we buy Kevin De bruyne he would become Andre Gomes 2.0 after one year at Barca.

Agreed

What people here fail to see is that ie. modric was not so good at WC because he was modric but because Brozovic and Raktiic played a brilliant tournament beside him and so he could do what he does best.

Same goes for FDJ. Imagine one fast and athletic mid next to him and one hard working pacey and smart midfielder next to him.

He has Bussi and Pjanic or kids next to him. And he is a kid himself.

I think most people refer to the fact that he makes many individual errors or takes bad decisions. Those aren't things influenced by Busquets, Pjanic or any other player on the pitch.

Spot on , the amount of excuses for this guy is a joke. Hes a very average player just like most of this squad , the club is in free fall.

When you don't have a confidence in you team mates... You make mistakes.

He's massively disappointing, the fact that De Jong is seen by some as some kind of saviour and cornerstone for the future is telling of the shit state Barca is in. 10-15 years ago he'd barely make top 40 midfielders in the world.

He had a very good breakout season in 18/19, the season prior he played a lot at centre back. It's very plausible we massively overpaid on the back of one breakout campaign. Some players have those seasons and never match them again.

Right now his only real standout trait is his stamina, if the coach wasn't Dutch and this hype train wasn't rolling, he'd be fighting to keep his place in the team on the back of these performances.

The only thing his performances show is that you cant half ass a rebuild or a formation.

We want to play a 4231 (partly because of de Jong), but any successful team that deploys one depends on dynamism - see Bayern and Frenkies Ajax. We have Griezmann, Coutinho, (Messi) and Pedri as #10, they use(d) Mueller or van de Beek. Dynamic box to box players. Same for our wingers vs theirs (though theres hope with Dembele and Fati). The double pivot in a 4231 needs fast transitions to work, which is simply not possible with our key players. Its not a formation to dominate the midfield (like 433). 4231 is supposed to be played vertically. But we dont do that for obvious reasons.

With Messi still here 433 just makes more sense. At least give the midfielders in a static, possession based system someone to play with, to form the right triangles. And SPACE in front of them. At the moment Frenkie (and Busquets) have like a million players in front of them. Hard to shine like that.

Edit: Theres literally no point for him to dribble. He will pass to Messi right next to him anyway. Or to Coutinho/Pedri/Griezmann. When he beat his marker at Ajax the players in front of him would attack the box, which gave him space to run into.

Maybe but if Busquest has Iniesta and Xavi next to him, he can play high level till 50.

And why all the blame to Busquest? If De Jong is so good, shouldn't he help Busquest better???

De Jong on his best day is still nowhere near as good as Busquets used to be.
