Xavi and Mateu Alemany have green-lit the sale of Frenkie de Jong for around ?70m, and the signing of Carlos Soler for ?20m. The operation is very advanced.

Seems convenient as I posted a tweet days ago saying ManU were prepared to offer 70 million for FDJ

Frenkie out and Soler&Kessie for 20m (+commissions) is astute business to be fair. I think Valencia would demand double that though and it would be better to wait a year for a free transfer.

Financially it makes sense to consider selling him. Not just because of the fee, but his salary is huge as well.

Not sure what to think of it, i loved seeing him play for Ajax and he had some nice games for us as well, but overall it was still underwhelming considering how expensive he was. Thought for a long time the only way he'll make it is playing DM or maybe even CB but since coaches don't seem to rate him there and with his CM performances not really improving it makes sense they may sacrifice him to strengthen other positions.

the question is if his replacement is better, Frenkie is a player who won't dominate the midfield when his team mates underperform but he plays top when the team plays well.

Would say it's more about if the team as a whole is stronger. The days where money was no concern are over so it in this case it's not just Soler (just naming the current rumor) vs De Jong, but also what let's say 40-50M and 10M/year could get us.

That money could be a new RW like Raphina, or fund Lewandowski or whatever. Hell in theory that money could even make us compete for Haaland, if that is still a possibility.

Not saying it's great to sell, but with limited funds it can open up possibilities that wouldn't be realistic otherwise that may be more impactful than just the difference between playing De Jong or another, cheaper, CM.

While Im actually fine with FdJ getting sold , it's still funny that the real rot is guaranteed to stay while the players around the rot are getting sold and bought.

Valencia deny there's an agreement or a negotiation for Soler with Barca.

Isn't it the case if we sell for 80m then it's not 80m for us to spend. We bought for around the same price right? So at the end of the season 48m is off the books. We'll profit 32m, plus no longer have to pay his salary. What does that get us? A 40m-50m player? If we bought as well as liverpool do, then great, we're not going to though are we.

70mil is way too low if PSG and Manu want him. These idiots will pay insane amount. Just wait and they will do something stupid..
