Gerard Romero has just reported something very interesting.
After the last game on Sunday, the next day, Monday Aug.29, FDJ departed to London with his girlfriend.
On Thursday afternoon, Sept.01, Barca had received an offer of 100 million euro from Chelsea for Frankie de Jong. Earlier that day, in the morning hours Barca had submitted a proposal for Bernardo Silva for 70 million euro plus 10 million in add-ons. There has thus far been no reply from Manchester City.
So, Pep was throwing BS' at the time of that charity friendly game with Barca saying that he cannot stop B.Silva from leaving his team for Barcelona. But we could at least sell FDJ for that astronomic amount and look for another midfielder in the winter window.

If true , we should have sold him.

100 mil is a big chunk of money and we should have taken advantage of that.

Was Frenkie willing to join though? as that has been the issue all summer, the player refusing to leave. Him being in London earlier is interesting.

Romero said Barca were in contact with 3 clubs to make the 'surprise player' possible:

Memphis -> United
Frenkie -> Chelsea
Bernardo -> Barca

Wonder if Alemany would have tied up Soler if we sold Frenkie for 80+ and Bernardo wasn't agreed.

I know for Xavi it was Bernardo or nothing. But maybe for the sake of depth the SD would have overstepped.

Agree. Unfortunately, waiting probably for response from City for B.Silva, we missed this great opportunity.

The problem was not the waiting.

The problem was that City were NEVER EVER gonna let him go the last day of the window.
That's a good lesson to learn for January.
Make the offer and negotiations early on, let City have time to find replacement, and you have good chances to make it happen

Barca's main goal was to sign B.Silva. FDJ and Depay has turned down Manch. Utd.'s offers. But the fact that Frankie was in London suggests that maybe he was considering a move to Stamford Bridge. Who knows?!?

He probably didn't want to leave.

If that is the case, then why he flew to London? Yes, Frankie was very adamant with his desire to stay but he has pride. He is not M. Braithwaite or M.Pjanic. He would not accept the option to be a sub at Barcelona for Busy, Pjanic and Gavi.

Yes but wasn't United willing to pay ,,only" 80 mil ?

This time Chelsea offered more , not to mention being in CL and in London compared to Manchester. The offer is much more attractive.

Of course. Barca accepted the 80 mil. United's offer, but Frankie refused it. He wants to play for a CL participant. This time around Barca would have gotten 20 mil. more and Frankie himself would have gotten a lot better personal deal with Boehly's team.

Yes. I have mentioned that in my post. Pep was acting as a smart ass. Typical Catalan. He does not want to let B.S. to leave.

Talks usually go through agents or representatives, players don't go to negotiate for themselves. Besides, you don't need a reason to visit London. If he went to Manchester, I might find it fishy. He might've took his sweetheart shopping. Or to see a show at West end.
