It is absolutely ludicrous that we are paying these old retirees these sums of money. What is even more disingenuous is how he posted a screenshot of his annual salary of around 3m per annum iirc, trying to make it seem as if he agreed to a salary decrease without any large deferrals.

To be fair, it could be that these rumors surrounding his salary deferrals of up to 80m is fake news. Perhaps he really did give up large sums of money permanently to assist the club financially. However, it is my opinion that the club deliberately leaks salary information of players as a negotiating tactic.

Finally, if what I am saying above is categorically false, then what the club needs is a propaganda minister, someone who will shut down rumors immediately instead of letting them spread like wildfire.

True, despicable leech if that 50 m owed to him are true. Which probably are.

According to MD/Sport, he wants to fulfill his contract until 2024, and he believes his injury concerns are behind.

With Catradio saying they are hoping he retires this summer and all these leaked damaging information coming out in regards to Pique, and we are hoping to sign another CB this summer to go along with Christensen, yeah seems like we are trying to move away from him I think.

But with our financial issues and the fact we apparently owe him an assload of money, It's going to be impossible.

He can keep a high level for 2/3 months. But that's the problem. Not long enough and the injuries are mounting.

He is 36 in February. One of these days he is going to return from injury and be shot to pieces like Ramos.

While he is way too influential and trusted by the manager to be prolongly dropped.

There's a disparity with what the sporting department wants and what Xavi wants (the Roberto renewal and then then the Alves signing).

So the best we can hope for is he isn't renewed, while the worst is that he is extended because of the deferred payments (may aswell pay them as a playing option compared to non playing option right?).

But there will have to be some logical decision that he is 4th choice CB at best and that Xavi doesn't draft him in for every big game out of trust.

The problem is the money owed to him, which are insane for such an irrelevant oldie, not his level on the field. His level is still good for a top 3 La Liga side.

It's not like you can kick him out without paying him.

There is no disparity between Laporta, Alemany, and Xavi. The difference in approach is simply that Xavi still has to get by with what he has, so he can't just not play players we still have to pay because they don't leave.

Aye, and that he is a Molotov cocktail off the pitch becoming a worse PR disaster than Tebas, taking poor Riqui Puig astray and stopping him from fulfilling his destiny as a top three midfielder in the world.

Puyol was in competetion for Liga team of the year early in 2011-2012 and looked fine, until he got the injury that ended his hopes of playing in Euros, since then he was never the same player.
Pique last full 90 minutes played was on April 3rd, and he missed the end of the season.
Already many reports that his injury is now chronic and will never heal, could only hope it gets a little better.

The " he is fine for top 3 in Liga" is ignoring those facts of age and injury. A player like that is now closer to be a back up than a starter, just by availability alone.
That isn't even counting for the well documented partying behaviour he had this season, and his self admission of lack of proper sleep

That's besides the point. The point is if you pay him, and you have to, you might as well play him if he is fit and the other players are weaker. This last season, when he was fit he played because the other players were not good.

Basically, the only way you should kick him out is if you can save money. Otherwise, we achieve nothing.

Kick him out.

Even if you have to leak shit about him the club's kept under the wraps. Heck confirm the Messi rumor.

This man is out all night partying before training sessions, rumouredly even taking out guys like Nico

Great captain.

OK, but if you kick him out you have to give him the money. How is that going to work in a realistic way?

Don't pay him and make him sue us :coffee:

Expose him.

*disclaimer i'm just joking

*kick him out and tell him he'll get paid half of his money due and in multiple installments

That's basically the only weapon we have against him so it's not really a joke. We'll basically ruin his legend status and will kill any kind of possible future for him as a Barca figure.

But then not paying him will still count as a wage-related debt probably. Unless he gives up the money somehow and signs something official probably.
