Gerard Piqué

Ramos and Pique are quite similiar in many ways, both very good with the ball for cbs, great in the air, and leaders. Both are also prone to make ridiculous mistakes at times, the big difference is though that Ramos can lose his head as quickly as no-one else can, while Pique is much more calm, even if he make mistakes at times.

They use to opperate pretty well together in NT, before everything went to hell last world cup. Not entirely their faults alone, though it was absurd to watch one of the best cb pairings in the world collapse so miserably last year.

Some of the blame is on Del Bosque for starting both Xavi and Xabi Alonso. None of them have legs to provide protection for the back four anymore, both are well past their prime as well and should be used sparingly. Del Bosque realised this way too late though.

Was watching him marching to opposite box couple of times and was thinking...should now Messi go defence?

I would argue that Pique would have deserved to be among those three best players in Europe tha last season. No irony, no sarcasm. Considering how effective our defence actually was and his role in set piece situations (in defending, but also, lets not forget, in attack also) he should have got at least most improved player award in European football.
