In principle he should of course keep his trap shut about transfer activity in general, but I really don't think what he said was that terrible. I mean, come on, everyone and his dog knows that we're in the market for a keeper and at least one cb. Bartomeu reiterating that won't change a dime. And about the budget? A number as vague as the one he presented - from 60M to 120M, what top team out there wouldn't be able to spend money like that in the summer? It should hardly surprise anyone that we'll need to splash out anyhow, and the numbers he mentioned won't change that.

We'll face fierce competition for every target out there, and if anything, flexing our financial strenght, will show other potential suiters that we mean business.

But in all honestly, I really don't see that these comments will have any effect on our transfer activity come July what so ever.

one good CB should cost us around 30 mio, and world class midfielder will cost around 40.

sell Song, Bojan, Affelay, Cuenca. Bring back other players from loan should have some depth.

Martino: "My future? This week I'll try for my entourage to leak different things to the press.... (smiles)"

Martino: "Referee debate after clasico? Real shame, lots of football issues to discuss... Thought they talked more about football here." :troll:

Martino: "Atletico are among the two-three best teams in Europe this season. Their performances have given more value to our Super Cup win."

Martino: "I talked with Javier about his game against Madrid. I like to discuss football with him. He's always very self-critical."

I like his way of thinking. :)

Martino vows to see out contract

WWW.FCBARCELONA.CAT 03/25/2014 13:56

The manager has confirmed President Bartomeu's comment that he intends to respect the terms on his contract

“A lack of concentration, and not maintaining our level of play and intensity, would put our potential for winning titles at risk" he added

Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino spoke to the media on Tuesday, a day before the home league fixture with Celta. He did so shortly after president Josep Maria Bartomeu had announced that “Martino has told us that he wants to see out his contract”. The FC Barcelona manager confirmed Bartomeu’s words by saying that “I always respect my contracts”.

Asked how the team is feeling in the wake of the clásico at the Bernabéu on Sunday, Martino replied that “it is important for us to be in the right frame of mind for this run-in to the end of the season, and we are still competing on all three fronts and finding our form, so it’s all positive. We have to make the most of what we achieved at the weekend, because it has put us back in contention for the league title”.

Against Celta “I am not worried about the team playing without the required intensity. We have gone through a difficult period but have managed to get back into the title race, so I don’t doubt that they’ll have the right attitude … We want to play our very best football and keep performing as well as did at the weekend … A lack of concentration, and not maintaining our level of play and intensity, would put our potential for winning titles at risk”. He singled out ‘consistency’ as the most important goal going into such a decisive stage of the season, the lack of which he believes is the reason why the team is not better situated in the league table”.

Martino appeared stunned that the aftermath of Sunday’s clásico has focused so much on the refereeing rather than what he considers to be far more important issues. “There was so much football to be spoken about after that match” he said. “Yet hardly anything has been mentioned”. Asked about his first impressions of playing at the Bernabéu, he said “when I got there, I thought ‘what a lovely ground’, and when I left I breathed a huge sigh of relief.” He compared the experience to one in Argentina between Newell’s and Central, a huge derby in his home country that also ended 4-3. His side went on to win the championship “and I just hope that this league ends in the same way for Barça” he added.

He also commented on Champions League quarter final opponents Atlético Madrid, describing them as “one of the two or three best teams in Europe. They are a difficult team for anyone to have to play against.”

This is very much the case. When looking at City, Real, Chelsea, PSG I see benches that are way beyond our level. Who are our subs? Sergi Roberto, Tello, Song, Pinto and one of Neymar, Pedro or Alexis. Only the latter are really good, the others are quite a bit below the level of what you would expect from a team like Barcelona.

Well, our sub list starts off with two out of three of Cesc, Pedro and Alexis. No other team has its first two subs of that quality, for all those teams you mention, these first two Barca subs are both better than at least two of those teams' first 11s. Next, Barca has Barta and Adriano, pretty damn good, no problem putting them in the lineup. Real's bench in looking a lot thinner with Jese and Khedira out, though I do admit their backup keeper is unusually strong.

The Barca bench has not always come through this year, they will have another chance tomorrow. I'm hoping they will be as good as they were against Osasuna, when they were devastating.

I hope he stays. If the board had bought some new defenders I'm almost certain we would be 3-4 points ahead in the league.

I really wan us to win one of the three trohpies we're up for this year but next year I can see us doing great with Rafinha coming back and all the new transfers.

This year we've come back and taken revenge for our humiliation of last year against Celtic and Real Madrid, the ony team left to face is Bayern. With iniesta and messi in the form they're in now and IF and ONLY IF, Mascherano brings back his normal big game form I think we can do it.
