Gerardo "Tata" Martino

Well, let's see how it goes. Hopefully he'll have everyone's backing when he is appointed and peace to work, especially from the scums in the media who made Tata's life a hell.

What´s that "it" factor and who has it then?

"It" factor is the charisma, personality and forcefulness to be great. To make changes-the right changes. The ability to be pragmatic and grind out results.

There is a certain manager called Diego Simeone who has it in spades. The ability to unify a team and make the whole greater then the sum of its parts.

Lucho's CV is hardly inspiring. Add to that the fact that our playing style has been found out or is not effective as it used to be.

Simeones wasn´t amazing either before he went to atleti.

excuse you.

simeone managed some 7 or so clubs before atleti. almost all in the argentine primera which is one of the most difficult leagues in the world to manage in.

he won with estudiantes in his first job, their first league in over 20 years.

managed river plate, a huge job and won the clausura.

managed catania as well in seria a and kept them from getting relegated, which they probably should have that year.

has made atleti a long term project.

lucho wont get years to create something at barca like diego did at atleti neither.

Lol...You people just don't get it, I have been banging on about this since the start of this season.

Possession football has been sussed out for the most part. This started in 2009 with Chelsea, but teams wisened up over the years to the point that even teams like Valladoid can now succesfully do it fairly often.

Bayern (The super duper "improved" version of Barca) were able to get away with this because of their pathetic league, once they came up against team that had any clue on how to defend and counter, their title of "updated Barca" looked incredibly laughable, I'm not even sure they're a better team than we are now, nevermind peak Barca.
Again, possession football, all things considered has been figured out.
Tata realised this and tried to change it, he was not successful with it(mind you, he couldn't get his own players, and has only been in the job less than a year, pressure from all angles that we weren't playing the "barca way" after the 1st half of the season, plenty of off-field drama in the 2nd half of the season...e.t.c...but that's another issue entirely), but the fact that he realised this IS A GOOD THING, this team needs fresh ideas. We were able to beat Madrid again because we started to take more vertical risks and cede more possession. Tata may not be the ideal candidate because of his motivational skills, but what we need is someone that realises possession football is not THAT effective anymore and try to incorporate other things. Lucho and all these other Barca fanatics will NOT help.

I mean, this here says it all.

Barcelona 0- Bayern 7

12 months later, the same team that destroyed the possession team of 12 months ago, led by the master of tiki taka himself- Pep, changed their style into a possession obsessed one, then what happened?

Bayern 0- Real Madrid 5

It doesn't get any clearer than that.

For a team with so many amazing players like Messi, Robben, Iniesta and co to not score 1 goal in 360 minutes of football, while conceding 12 goals says that something is CLEARLY wrong with the possession tactics against teams that know how to counter it, this has absolutely nothing to do with Tata, but absolutely everything to do with our tactics and how anyone that doesn't bow down to the "Barca way" (which only started in 2009 by the way) and tries a different approach is (and will be) chastised to heavens. The sooner we realise this, the better it will be for us, otherwise, we WILL turn into also rans like Arsenal battling for 3rd place (and winning the possession league of course).

If the board wants this team to progress and not turn into an also ran like Arsenal, we should hire anyone BUT one of these "Barca DNA" fanatics like Lucho and co. They are wanna be Peps, we don't need wannabe Peps when even Pep himself is in big trouble right now.

But yeah, Tata is the cause of our downfall or something.

What I don't understand is how some people on here is a for all be all on tiki taka in here.

We should get the mix of counters plus some high tempo tiki taka. It really brings the best out of our players especially the front three plus Cesc. And Cesc really does better under counters, but that depends if he stays next season. If we get a striker it would be even better more ideas for variety.

I like the way Tata implemented the team in the first half of the season. I liked that style and had hoped we would stay with it. I don't think Tata is the right person to carry on with this imo effective style, but we need to keep it. If Pep does come back to Barca he needs to realize this.

Classical Tiki taka as you guys know if from the golden era 2.0 is dead. Tiki taka needs to evolve. Tata was on the right path, but we need someone else

Pep has the Tiki-Taka to death philosophy thats a big flaw in his managerial skills. He is too stubborn and tries to be too pragmatic when a simplicity and going with the flow would be better. Plus I don't get your last line, on the right path but we need someone else? You think Lucho will make us a possession team with deadly counter attacking like we started under Tata?
