either he sees barca as ideal retirement option or really really wants to play here,i see no logic joining the club that is on brink of bankrupcy, with threat to be banned from CL and is currently one of the biggest laughing stocks of europe because of appaling records in CL...

If he is taking a paycut (less than what he earned at Liverpool?) to come here, then it is probably the latter.

Sometimes the negativity is overwhelming(I take blame for that too). We signed quality roster player for free. For fecks sake.

This season we had no substitutes. At least he gives us options to be a great sub or good starter.

He was earning very little at Liverpool, surely won't be taking a paycut. His demands were high, Liverpool probably offered less. That same sum is probably what we'll have to pay for him.
If wages offered are the same at both Liverpool and Barca he might as well move to a better country.

I'm cool with him if he takes FDJ spot and FDJ takes Busquets' spot.
We lacked power and physicality against strong sides and he provides that.

taking a paycut doesn't really mean anything. liverpool weren't willing to offer the same terms and don't know if other top clubs were in for him and wanted to offer more.

It was reported Liverpool were offering him a raise to stay from around 70k to 120k.

Barca will most likely have easily achievable bonuses in contract to compensate and push down line to next summer anyway.

So the paycut that I have been seeing refers to a lesser deal than what we would have agreed to pay him, but still significantly higher than what he earned at Liverpool?

and who is going to pass the ball in midfield? no problem with replacing busquets or using him as rotation. but our other midfielders don't even come close to him when we're talking about passing range and variety, creativity.

Must be. It'd be a mockery to offer less than what he earns now - a contract from 2016 when he was signed from Newcastle and had won absolutely nothing.

Will be smoke and mirrors.

Smaller wage with bonuses included to kick can down road to when club have more cash.

Sign-on fee might be key here. You can have a lower salary and still get more in the end because you get a sign-on fee of let's say 5M. He surely won't get a "loyalty" bonus on top of a raise if he's at Liverpool. Length of contract plays a role too. I don't know how many years Liverpool offered him. Let's say 2. At his age it is smarter to sign a contract for 3 years with a slightly lower salary than the one for 2 years with higher salary.

Busquets is not as great a passer on ball as you make out. He takes too many touches and slows game down to his pace with occasional great through ball but teams are sitting off him letting him on it often knowing he is not a huge threat and cant carry it forward.

His weaknesses outweigh anything he gives on ball and his time should be up if anyone at club has balls to bin him and Pique.

I think if Koeman stays it may be FDJ and Wijnaldum/Pedri in a two with Messi AM.
