Ranocchia-Bonucci were awfully good at Bari last year. Chiellini's going to have to watch out - there's actually going to be respectable competition for a starting CB spot.

Fiorentina was the only side to have representatives in the attack (Gila), midfield (Monty) and defense (LDS) in the last match.

Not a massive surprise given that Prandelli's now the NT coach. :) But still, Gila didn't flop, Monto looked quite good (nice work on the leadup to Quagliarella's goal) and I've always liked De Silvestri. Also of note -- Pirlo looked good. Not just the free kick at the end of the game, but in general. Nice job contolling the passing, etc. The armband suits him.

He probably will, if the projected lineups in the Italian dailies are right.

Thanx. I looked under Nazionale and couldn't find it.
Don't know about you guys, but I'd rather play Rossi over Cassano. New Milanista wasn't in a good shape last time I saw him.

He's shy of match fitness but I think what he's got going for him is that he played very well together with Pazzini, who's the other striker slated to start. (There was another Gazzetta article on that partnership playing together again).

They played brilliant against Slovenia yesterday. They were very aggresive, Chiellini won ALL duels, Buffon locked his goal, their attackers were performing good and they had over than 10 deadly chances, but Handanovič were saving Slovenia in game... Thought Motta's goal was lucky, but they deserved a win

Thanks for that, nejcf. I think the Italy squad is still in the rebuilding process but the signs are, to me, encouraging. Especially when you consider the U21s and how well they're playing too. There's hope for the future.

Italy's B squad beat Ukraine 2-0 today. Goals by Giuseppe Rossi and Alessandro Matri.

The U21s came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Germany's U21s. Another decent result for them -- Ciro Ferrara seems to be doing a good job. (I'm slightly happier about this result because I really like the captain of the U21s, Alberto Paloschi).

Rossi is a B player?

He's not considered an automatic starter. It baffles me too, as I think he should be.

I've seen Cagliari play twice in the last few years - once away to Parma and once away to Juve. They won both games and Matri scored in both of them. Matri definitely impressed me in both games. Part of me is a little sad that Juve picked him up (as opposed to him being brought back to Milan, where he came through the youth setup), but yeah. I think he's good - and has the potential to really shine.
