His skills and talents are not being optimised in Lucho's system, simple as that.

He has what we need to improve our midfield, but only if used correctly.

Blaming Raki or Rafinha for our poor midfield yesterday isn't really fair, they are given a thankless task. The tactic Lucho uses would make any midfielder who plays out wide look weak and unable to create much, or keep control, as they are mainly used as babysitters for our wingbacks and every time they get the ball it's mostly a matter of doing a last second pass just to keep possession, there is very little opportunity for doing anything interesting.

I mean, Busquets is also being criticised for how "slow and useless" he has become all of a sudden. Seems strangely improbable that one of the best DMs in the world would suddenly become so much worse from one season to the next, right? Doesn't anyone notice how incredibly isolated he is in the middle under Luchos system. Look how far behind him our CB line is, and how disconnected he is to Rafinha and Rakitic during play as they are busy working in the edges of the pitch. Listen, ANY midfielder placed in his position would look like a headless chicken tracking back when a counterattack happens. There is just WAY to much space he has to cover alone, an almost impossible task. Something he never had to do under Pep. Even a professional sprinter would have problems closing down these distances quick enough.

Finally somebody who can see it! I agree so much.

Well thats one part of it. it does allows messi to drop deeper, and neymar and suarez drop deep aswell. Well i don't see a problem creating more midfielers space by moving our three midfielders wider apart from each other. This way messi can move absolutely anywhere to create combinations, randomly. The midfield gets back into shape, moves out to another shape again and again; creating unpredictability. messi can move right to use alvez, suarez, or he can move left to linkup with neymar , iniesta/rafina, alba.

Where ever messi moves, there is a space behind, i am sure there is a good setup of whos coverering/using the spaces created in different situations. and the situation is well defined for both cases, attacking and defending.

Well i do understand main midfielder like rakitic staying right side too much isn't good, and is useless mostly. But him moving right should be based on a situation, for example like: when alvez is caught up front and rakitic is suppose to cover the space alvez is exposed.

And if Rakitic hotspots are too much on the right, that surely is a sign of concern of a bad event happening too much. So i say its not really a tactical mistake but maybe a sign of a poor implementation or another weakness:Alvez.
