He will be 32 next Season? No way We should offer him new big contract

One thing is certain he won't get improved contract. If he stays it will be under his current terms. We are not crazy to renew a 31y old player who has contract for 2 more years. If the right offer comes we should sell but as I said if we sell him we won't have that type of player anymore and Arthur and De Jong are defensive midfielders. If Cou won't play in midfield and Alena won't raise his game to another level we'll need Eriksen type of player and I don't know who can that be but for sure it won't be Eriksen.

It is good thing he will stay here next year tbh.
I believe FDJ is more of DM than CM in our style (plays way too deep for Barca CM, especially with Arthur beside him) but whatever Barca sees him, having both Raki & Busquets will allow him to slowly integrate into the team without much pressure, easing the transition.
In 2020 we will know which position he will occupy and prepare for replacement for 3rd position, or may be we will have it already from La Masia

One of Rakitic and Busi needs to sit out quite some minutes to allow for Arthur and Frenkie to play together. I don't want Frenkie and Arthur fighting for the same spot. We need to integrate both ASAP. If Rakitic is fine with playing less as he gets older, we don't have to sell him.

I'm actually fine with Rakitic staying as long as he accepts a good portion of his minutes to go Frenkie's way. Also, if he stays Valverde needs to cut the bullshit with playing him almost every game.

I said it b4 that I see FDJ as DM, not CM. Especially with a guy like Arthur beside him. He will have to fight more with Busquets.
And regardless of hype and price tag, he will have to fight for his minutes, just like almost every player before him, including players like Arthur,Rakitic,Busquets,Umtiti,Pique etc. Rakitic or Busquets won't be phased out before he proves he is better than them, his minutes need to be earned not given.
Sure, if he earns his minutes it will mean some cuts in Raki minutes, and Raki probably understands that. He is probably the most hardworking player in the team in past half decade and he doesn't take things for guaranteed.
If FDJ proves he deserves the starting spot during the course of next year one player out of Busi/Raki (depending on his position) will need to either accept bench role in 20/21 or leave, while we will need to look for replacement for the other

Problem is, it's one thing saying it, because it's logical and we all know and hope that how it should be. BUT we have the absolute worst manager possible for such a transition. I absolutely don't trust Valverde to play FDJ enough, if Rakitic is still here, even though realistically I know the best thing to do would be to keep him for one more year until hopefully Frenkie integrates into the team as quickly as Arthur did. But we knowing this and using healthy rotation, keeping all 5 of them (if we count Alena too) happy and with regular minutes, and Valverde doing so are two completely different things. I'm guessing Alena will be reduced to Denis treatment, (or even loaned out, which would be even more stupid, considering he already showed significant strides in his first season in the first team and proved that he can compete here) if we have all of Rakitic, Busquets, FDJ and Arthur at the club.

For the sake of the future, we must take that risk and sell Rakitic now. Not just for financial reasons (last chance to sell him and get a substantial amount, otherwise we'll be gifting him back to Sevilla in 2 years for like 5M just to get rid of him, just like we gifted Villa to Atletico for the same price), but for giving a real chance of developing with healthy minutes to Arthur, FDJ and Alena, maybe even Puig, if he's promoted. They're our future, not a 31-year old, who wants a new improved contract, because he thinks he'll play (here) until he's 41, because he thinks he's playing the best football of his career right now.

Barcelona will not sell Rakitic this summer. The player wants an improved contract and both Valverde and the club are happy with the 31-year old Croatian and set to offer him a bumper new deal.[cope]
