I don't 've a definitive opinion as i have barely followed him. But i do remember watching a highlight where he joined in attack, and set-up his teammate with some nice footwork (like a striker would)...not sure about the opposition.

seems to be someone to keep an eye on. i don't know much about him but a left footed tallish center back who could maybe play the left back sounds like someone worth checking out.

I used to follow him when there were rumors previously, but not any more... Some say he's better than Vermaelen, don't really know how to comprehend that. On one hand Vermaelen is a very good ball player, he's susceptible to concentration lapses and is easily turned inside out by quality forwards. so...

Anyone here with actual information about his performance and consistency level? Is he good enough for Barcelona? Our defense is too thin and we need good CBs, if not world-class CBs.

A free CB from a club like Ajax isn't an everyday opportunity, especially since we are desperate for some defensive reinforcements.

He won't be as cheap as Afellay. He'll cost any where between £10m-£15m. Most clubs in europe would snap him up for their squads. So Ajax can initiate a bidding war for him.

I believe £10-15 is nothing for a quality player like him these days.... just think about it.

*He is ajax captain at 24, so he is very mature whilst being still only 24 and is a leader
*He is from Ajax academy, therefore from a Cruyff / barca school of thought
*He is tough, tall, and physical (thats something we are missing in defence)
*He is left footed and can be played as CB and LB in 3 man defence
*He reads the game very well and is very smart, therefore will be adapting to the spanish game and our way of football
*He is the long term replacement for Puyol and Abidal
*He is very very good with his feet and builds the play from the back
*He is cheap considering his age, his qualities and the market in general

truth! fair play man you've sold it well! i agree JV would be a great addition to our squad and it really makes the most business sense.

as long as we get him, Hummels, Martinez or Thiago Silva i'll be happy!

Looks like this is a probable option for Barca. Not sure what to make of it since I don't follow the Dutch league but I did like Frank de Boer and if he is recommending him...
Also, as stated above..left footed and adaptable and expiring contract..
