thiago silva was the first choice for center backs and it was pretty sure that they would try to get him and thats the strange thing why dont you give 40 mill for a class center back than give it to a guy that isnt worthy of it and cb isnt his natural position maybe that he can cover cb and dm but again not worthy of that money

1) He's 28 years old
2) He wants ridiculous wages
3) Milan are reluctant to sell

Meanwhile, Martinez is 23 and is (reportedly) willing to lower his wages for us.

If Thiago Silva is 28 y.o., then Javi is 24 and Athletic are even more reluctant to sell then Milan because not only that they don't need the money, but they won't be able to replace JM with someone even remotely close to his value.

And I would not be so sure that he would be willing to lower his wages only to come to Barca. From what I read in the spanish press, not only that the VAT increased from yesterday, but if Javi comes to us he will go from paying taxes of 23% to 56%(Catalunya is the region with the highest taxes from Spain). Also if Barca wants to pay his realease clause they will have to pay all the money at once and at this moment the club only has half of those money.
And if 50million euros for Neymar are too much money, then the same price for someone who is coming as a back-up is outrageous.

If the club is not convinced Javi Martinez is our starting CB for many years, then he shouldn't be bought. It's starting to sound like a deal might not come to fruition and if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Buy-back Romeu to replace Keita and then maybe try again next year for a World-Class CB if a deal can't be made for Hummels either. Rotate Mascherano with Puyol if need all year long and let's see if Mascherano can really make it work.

I thought the club might be able to negotiate a deal with Bilbao but it just might not happen.

I always thought he resembled someone. And i just realised its none other than our very own Javier mascherano, except with better hair :lol: They also 've the same initials JM, and both are DM/CB. So we 'd be buying a taller handsome version of masch. :p
