we already bought a defender couple of days ago who was a striker when he was a kid :pep:

ed is a true englismam, a defender has to born as a defender and die as a defender. and his dad was a defender and his kids has to be defender as well. and ofcourse in 442 formation.

And just as a true englishman he lives in Greece

For like the nth time, Masch may be a WC DM, but not a WC Barca DM. His profile doesn't suit us at DM, evident in the matches he's played there (most notably Osasuna). The fact that Pep even chose to start a b2b and an inexperienced fantasisti over Masch as a Busi-back up should tell you where the Argentine figures in the Barca scheme of things.

Sport.es and mundodeportivo.com claim that transfer of Javi Martinez to Barcelona is very, very close.

Javi Martínez is ready to leave the Athletic and has already informed the club and the president - Josu Urrutia. Player knows that, despite the fact that he played a key role in the Europa leauge is still in the orbit of interest of the biggest clubs. Martinez takes into account the interest of Bayern Monachum, however, makes no secret of his desire to play in Barcelona - says Sport.

It seems that this transfer is necessary as Seydou Keita left the club.

In central defence JM is not world class. Sure he may have been brilliant in that position and won loads of trophies but for any other club in the world he be the automatic choice as the DM and would be world class in that role, as he has proven with us and Argentina. Same thing with Martinez. Sure he will be brilliant in defence and win loads of trophies, but at any other club his magnificence at central midfield will be seen and that is his rightful position. Thus seeing as you ruined JM's career as a midfielder - a world class midfielder - I don't want the same thing to happen to Martinez.

Want a defender? then buy a freaking defender not a midfielder acting as a defender.

If Mascherano is not world class as a deffender, then I don't know who is..and as far as proving it with Argentina that he's better as a DM, he has been quite in the last 2 years in that position. Not to mention that I don't really care what will happend at any other club because I saw his brilliance enough last season as a CB and I hope to see it for many years(if it could be next to Pique it would be even better).

3 of the best spanish CBs in the last 20 years(Nadal, Hierro, Pique) started as DMs, Puyol started as a striker, then a FB..not to mention our last acquisition, Jordi Alba who started as a no.10 and who was transformed into a beautifull LB by Emery. But apparently their careers were runied..just imagine what Puyol could have done playing in atack though. He could have been at least as good as Andy Caroll. :pep:

I don't know Ed, with how poor the central defense looks for Albicelestes, Javier is probably the best CB for the job

They should try Coloccini and/or Mascherano in the centre of defense..but keep in mind that they have a coach that doesn't call-up Insua and Coloccini and plays instead with two back-up players from Napoli and Spartak Moscova or even worse, Clemente Rodriguez. Argentina should not be used as an example for anything.

I would say Pep's one of THE best discovery/achievement at Barca is to play Mascherano as a CB . What a devil he is at that position.

Insua isn't much of an upgrade. F.Fernández has loads of potential, just need regular game time at club level. I've no issues with him starting for la selección regardless.

 Stop crediting every other thing to Pep... Pep just couldn't take it any more and played Masch out of mid field. Turned out to be a master-stroke

Puyol the wall

sent-up-the-bomb
Mascherano has done great playing as a CB but he's got some routine errors that CB's would normally be good at like positioning and he is somewhat rash in tackles but it doesn't overshadow the fact that he has been a revelation credit should be given to Pep for taking a chance and using him as a CB...Javi Martinez is different from Mach though both are DM's ,he has done well for Athletic playing as a CB but he wouldn't be the perfect CB to bring in like Hummels the gaffa will have to rectify routine errors which he will have coz he doesn't have enough experience playing as a CB but I don't see why that can't be done if Pep was incharge I hope Tito will be the same as Pep, I prefer Hummels though but it seems unlikely.

stop talking bullshit ffs
I don't know man... If any thing I'd give credit to Yaya Toure, for playing so God damn well and giving food for thought to Pep for playing the DMs at CB position. He then played Busi, and then Masch there after Masch showed how stupid he could be playing a DM in our system

We should also thank Yaya for being so smart and saying to Pep that Cruyff played DMs as CBs when he coached Barcelona, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to use him in the centre of the defense in a CL final. Yaya :worthy:

yeah. If Yaya and Busi were absolute flops playing there, I wonder if we would be having this discussion now
