However much history you remind me of, it was a move born moreso out of desperation than tactical innovation... Masch moving to defense or Yaya moving to defense.

Mascherano was signed a mid fielder, he was played in mid field for almost a whole season and when it was more or less evident he wouldn't suit our play as a mid fielder AND when we were in need of defenders he was played in central defense. It worked.
I don't understand how Pep should be given all the credit here
