About Pique; he's pretty damn fast once he's up and running. The problem, as I see it, is his acceleration - especially when he needs to turn that big body of his around.

The problem with long legs are they take some time to get going, my acceleration suck but when i gain top speed im an absolute tank, the same goes for Pique.

If we do sign Martinez who knows Tito might want to change a few things and we could end up with this kinda formation next season

-------------Messi------------
-----Iniesta---------villa---
-----------------------------
---------------Xavi----------
-----Martinez----------------
--------------Busquets------
Alba--------------------Alves
-------Puyol----Pique--------

Spanish national team with Messi, Villa and Alves instead of David Silva, Arbeloa and Fabregas. Looks to me. Especially since Martinez can easily drop back to make it a 3 man backline with Alba and Alves pushing forward 3-5-2 / 3-4-3.
I hope this is not what is going to happen but if we spend 40 mil on a player I can only guess we could end up trying to play to his strengths too.

No one is paying 40M for Martinez, if his price does not go down, he is not changing teams. No matter who is chosen to start games this year, each game will have some extremely valuable talent on the bench. I hope Tito subs more often earlier in the games, to take better advantage of the depth of talent. Pep burned out a few players towards the end of last year because he did not rest them enough, maybe Tito will spread the playing time out a bit more. Barring too many injuries, the squad this year (with one more CB/DM) will have enough depth for all three competitions.

Let me put it this way: Hummels, Martinez, Piqué are defenders whose pace is really not one of their best assets. Whilst one might seem "faster" than the other, the difference isn't a significant one.

And that video mitkoa7 posted, CR's few steps behind Piqué (if you freeze @0:10) and yet manages to almost outpace the latter.

oh cmon its normal a guy with height 1,92 to be slow with long legs and body and cb is a position that needs certain speed but needs big players who mostly arent fast if you except puyol who with height just 1.78 can jump higher than taller guys but now he is even slower than pique so i cant really remember any good center back with height over 1,90 to be fast

are you guys noob or something ? where from u get this stuff ?

jump to 1m26s and judge how slow this guy is... and then call me noob! Also can't you guys see how faster he's on ball compared to Pique!? He runs with the ball like a seasoned winger!!

And puyolthewall, spreading rumors on me much!?

I dont care how fast he is, I care however that he is inconsistent and flops quite often.
