Our fullbacks push forward a lot and having slow CBs has kind of burned us. Hummels is slow and pretty error prone, I haven't been too impressed. I'd prefer Javi, he's a beast and deceptively quick for a tall player. He can also play as a DM. I'd still rather have a speedy CB like Thiago Silva but other than him...I dont really know if any that are both fast and world-class.

Why do you say that he's error prone? Is it because he was the best CB in Bundesliga and the leader of the team that won the title, one of the best CBs at the EC(certainly better than Pique) and then when Germany played against Italy he showed his shortcomings(like all the German players) in a game where Low was way over his head?
And then you say that you preffer instead of him someone who made the most penalties in La Liga(6), had a few red cards on the way and makes the same mistakes as Masche did last season(because even though Javi is a good CB, his best position is in midfield).
And as far as speed goes, none of them excells in that particular area(although they are both faster than Pique).

Pique is faster than both.There are several examples in the classico's to prove that.
Hummels and Javi are both good players but none is better than Pique.He has been an intergal part of two teams (Barca-Spain NT) that won everything the past 4 years and he is just 25yo.
It's like saying Kroos is better than Xavi because Bayern went to the CL finals and Germany had a good run in the EC while Barca didn't qualify to the CL final and Xavi didn't play well in the EC (exept the final).
We need a player to play along Pique and not a player like Pique.

Javi's too expensive, and not the best cb out there... He seems to be the favorite, idk why. He would be a mistake like ibra, imho.

He's a favorite probably because he is Spanish/Basque, which means that there won't be any communication problems unlike say if they got Hummels. Also the fact that he plays for Spain so he knows the players and the style that Barca play to an extent. But I agree that he is too expensive.

Pique is one of the slowest WC CBs, if not the slowest. That's why he needs someone like Ramos, Mascherano, Puyol or Abidal to play next to him. He played one game next to Javi if I'm not mistaken and I was not very impressed by their partnership.
Not really..Hummels was the best CB in the last 2 years in Bundesliga, while Pique was not even the best CB for his club or his country. Hummels was one of the reason for which BVB won the league, while if we would compare a midfielder from Bayern with Xavi, that midfielder would be Schweini, not Kroos. But even then your comparison would not be right because while Xavi is still able to put WC performances in a EC final, Pique didn't had one since Espanyol-Barca.
Exactly..how can you pay 40 million euros for someone who's best position is in midfield and who wouldn't make a good partnership with any of our CBs, except Puyol?
Not to mention that we don't have more than 25 million euros and I doubt Athletic would accept those money. It's quite a pitty that Sergi Gomez got lost with Eusebio because in one year he would have been perfect.

he has long legs and stride, so he is very fast once he gets going. so he is very fast. if you want to say anything you could say that his first few steps are slower because of his size, i just don't understand why you call him one of the slowest CB's i'm sure that he would beat many players from barca with share pace (xavi, iniesta, puyol, alves, busquets, )

with Keita all but gone, it probably makes the Martínez transfer more likely. Hes not a world class CB, but hes solid enough that he can easily cover both positions (whilst still bringing through a youth player or two) and strides forwards from the back to start attacks even better than pique has done.
If barca can turn Masch into a brilliant CB, im sure they can do the same with Javi.

He is big game performer (CL final etc) he just had a relatively bad season and i believe you shouldn't judge him soleley on that.
Hummels was the best defender in Bundesliga (an inferior league to La Liga) but who were his competitors?Subotic,Badstuber or Boateng?
Heck,Dortmund finished fourth in CL group stage after Olympiakos last year!!
Anyway i like Javi but not for 40m.We could bring Romeu back (since Keita is leaving) and also buy a player like Vertoghen/Vermaelen for less..
