Jean-Clair Todibo

Being dependent on their physique in their youth years is definitely not a good sign. We'll see what happens. No one seems to know anything about this player.
I understand what you're saying. Lots of physically strong youngsters fail due to lack of skills afterwards. But as I said, per se, him being strong is a positive. I honestly don't know what his career has been based on thus far.

Having athleticism could never be a bad thing lol. It's only bad if the player lacks in all other areas. And even so, you can teach awareness/technique. You can't teach someone to be a 1.9m athletic beast.

At a position like CB it's especially key to have athletic players. Look at some of the best CB's of the past few years:

-Van Dijk
-Varane
-Koulibaly
-pre injury Umtiti
-Ramos (moreso back in 2017)

They are all highly athletic players with recovery speed and good strength. Most of them are really good in the air too. Watching Tobido's highlights he uses his recovery to chase down and tackle a lot. Seems to be good at using his size to suffocate/pressure players too. Positioning is a big question mark since he's young and hasn't even played at the top level much, let alone any of us having watched him consistently there.

There's a good chance he could be what we all wanted Mina to be (minus the consistent goalscoring).

Yes, players who used to be smaller in their younger years, get bigger later and have used their formative years to develop football skills. Far too many early "beasts" fall flat when they reach professional levels.

On his way. Will be presented tomorrow. He won't be loaned out and won't have any problems playing for the B team.

A deal between us and Toulouse is very close to being finalized. An official annoncement is expected tonight. Due to Sala's unfortunate plane crash over the English Channel, he choose to take a car and drove the 396 km to BCN. The club will pay between €1-2 million for him.

The opposite is also true, players who lacks physical tools has hard times to adapt to the speed of the game.
Look at Montoya & Carvajal for example, Montoya was always the better prospect but his lack of speed hurt him at 1st team level while Carvajal had the time to develop his skill.
Bartra is another example, he was never the physical specimen for a CB and once in 1st team he struggled.

You can't teach speed, it is always a good thing and lately best CBs in the world (especially for non defensive teams) has been quick CBs. Umtiti,Varane,Ramos, VVD etc

And what is that?

A Jerome Boateng type player. Maybe faster but somewhat weaker aerially. Not as much of a disaster as Mina in 1v1 obviously

We don't know if he'll actually become world class or not but we can speak that into existence

2-3 million is probably worth it for 6 months. That was all it took for us to assess Mina and determine while he might be a solid player he wasn't going to be a Barca CB. You also have to figure this is time with some uncertainty on Umtiti. So we get a great look at him and work on his development now, and based on how he looks, and the play/training of Murillo, and Umtiti's recovery (or not) we know if we need to spend big this summer (de Ligt, Koulibaly, or one of the Leipzig pair) or don't really need to.

All the best CBs and CB prospects in recent years have been pretty athletic (at least relative to size, even Pique 4 years ago) and good feet. Ideally you want a player who has a mind, emotional AND physical advantage over who he plays. VVD is the best in world football at the moment--he literally erases a lot other players mistakes (not yesterday though--he is human).
