How do you know this? That Valencia are willing to come to a friendly €20M agreement I mean?

Well, I don't know it 100 %. But the fact that Mathieu says "I was told I could leave when there's a good bid. I hope to leave in a good way" and Valencia's statements that he can leave for the buyout fee instead of stuff like "not transferable" makes me believe they are willing to let him leave and are just holding out for the € 20M.

My point was a more general one anyway. "Buyout = taxes" is not automatically true like some people here assume with their "20 + tax".

There is another way where you can avoid taxes even if the selling club isn't willing to talk by the way. Valencia is in huge debt. If they refuse income of € 20M the financial council in Valencia won't have any of it and pressure them to accept the money from Barca or threaten them to immediately pay their debt and that they won't get any help in the future. It's similar to how Martinez went to Bayern for € 40M and without taxes despite Athletic not talking to them if I'm not mistaken.

Mathieu would be great. He can play 2 positions, tall and quite fast.
Just pay the release clause and get over with it.

Normally I'd agree Bojan but he's 29, 30 in October...that is just too much money for him. 20mil euros is not terrible but far from a bargain. If we were to sell Alves, we'd have a hard time getting 20mil and hes a big name. 15mil is fair, Valencia officials are being douches.

He's 30. Will be 31 in October.

Douches because they stick to a release clause that Mathieu himself signed after having read his contract probably with his agents and lawyers around at the time.

Come on. Mathieu is not 5yo, he knew what he was signing. And he was not alone.

Btw, some people here are saying that we'd need to pay 20M + tax. That's incorrect I think, it will "only" be 20M, the Valencia-president said some days ago in an interview that they just wanted those 20M, for them it wasn't important that Barca paid those tax too, because they're willing to sell, and they wouldn't get any additional money from that tax anyway. So they ask 20M.
