Nuno Espírito just talked about JM last night and i am not sure what he meant is JM leaving or not ?!
"Mathieu es un icono en la plantilla, con carácter para ser capitán" , He sido jugador y sé lo que hay alrededor, pero el club está por encima , Mathieu es jugador del Valencia, pero ha sido muy sincero conmigo . @partidodelas12 [Source]

"Mathieu is an icon in the team, with the character to become captain. I have been a player and I know what's there, but the club is above all. Mathieu is a Valencia player, but he has been very sincere with me."

It seems like a non-answer to me. Mathieu wants to leave, Club won't let him go unless buyout is paid, in essence.

Tell Valencia to fuck off and buy Rojo instead. This will set a precedent that to the other clubs that we cant be bullied around

This. Paying 20m + tax for a 31 year old who isn't even that good would be insane. There's no need to be so desperate to get him.

As has been said on this thread, Rojo is younger, cheaper and can cover the same positions. Buy him and then go all in for a top CB like Benatia. We'd probably have to overpay for Rojo as well, but there's no way he'll cost more than Mathieu.

If we fork over 20m + tax for Mathieu, any club we try to buy a top CB from will ask for at least 60m.

Garay, Mussaccio, Subotic, Fazio, Höwedes, ... maybe Miranda or Godin.

I have no idea why we didnt go for Garay, competing with Zenit for a player shouldnt be that hard.

You think Subotic & Godin will cost the same as Matheiu. Miranda is almost as old as Matheiu. Garay is gone. Howedes I don't know much about. Mussachio can be a good alternative but I doubt the board will go for him

Dortmund have 3 solid centre backs now with Ginter, Subotic is coming off an ACL injury, 20m should be enough... Godin maybe a bit more expensive but he´s worth that. Garay cost 6m according to Transfermarkt, what a steal that would have been, but the board were too focused on Marcos...

Garay couldn't join us. He had some kind of a clause with Real I think. At least some rumors said that.

Benfica and Zenit arranged that deal so that Real would be screwed over (since they still owned 50% of Garay's rights). Zenit will just overpay on another Benfica player.

Maybe Valencia will accept less than the buyout now. They'll not need to pay Mathieu anything if he has officially handed in a transfer request.

He did release a statement:

I can't find a bigger version. But it's not a transfer request, yet.

Mathieu (Valencia): "Valencia have a bid from an important club. This would be a step forward for me and a reward for all my hard work."

Mathieu (Valencia): "I can join the biggest club in the world. I hope Valencia and the president understand my situation and start talking."

Wow he's desperate to come here, even throwing an adult temper tantrum to get his wish...

Don't want him anymore, too clingy :jds:

Jeremy Mathieu demands to leave Valencia
The player wants to seal his switch to the Camp Nou as soon as possible

Jeremy Mathieu has called for Valencia to let him move to Barcelona.
The French centre-back has been the Blaugrana's top target to boost an ailing backline, with PSG's Marquinhos proving difficult to get.

He wrote: "At no time did I intend to get into a confrontation with Valencia, such is the love and respect I have for this institution and its magnificent fans.
"I have spent five seasons at this club and I am grateful for its confidence in me, throughout the time I have been here."

Mathieu insists that he is telling the truth about the situation so people do not believe rumours or false speculation.
"I do not hide that for me this is a step forward in my career in every way. "It is a reward for my work, my effort, and it is a unique opportunity that any player would like to take," he continued.
"I came to Valencia five seasons ago and this transfer would be benefit all parties involved. During my time here I have always tried to do my best but it's time I moved forward and ended a cycle which I will always carry in my heart. I will be eternally grateful no matter what.

"I completely deny the accusations put towards me, claiming I am a rebel and refuse to train. Any professional in football understands perfectly they do not want to run the risk of being injured while negotiations for a possible transfer are taking place."

He added: "I've never been a controversial person and I will not be now, I only ask for respect and for it to be understood there is a situation which would be beneficial to all parties, which can be successfully resolved without controversy or misunderstanding. When I renewed my contract with Valencia last year the president promised to let me go if there was a good deal for me, which is currently the case."

Mathieu says he will always have Valencia in his heart and in his skin, but this is the time for him to leave.
