Bartomeu was a victim of Messi's insane greed for money. His greed and Barcelona fans' unlimited backing of him meant these guys had to succumb and the entire wage structure got destroyed coz the players all demanded salaries relative to the new standards set.

Still laugh at the naive Messibois thinking he kept Barca alive.
This is laughable. Bartomeu was throwing money all over the place as he is terrible at convincing players and is weak. 100m.+ each for the likes of Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann, giving a huge contract to FDJ, 20m. for the likes of Braithwaite and the list goes on.

And 16m for Rakitic on low wages

Bartomeu screwed the wage bill more than anything. After the Neymar sale and with the highest revenue in world football you could have failed with a couple of big transfer signings and still get out of it. But the wage bill crippled us.

Look at Liverpool, no CL football next year, spent 120m on Charles and Gakpo, then go out again this Summer and spend another 100m on Scotch Argie and Szomething. Sure they get PL rights money, but also their wagebill is largely tight.

If Mane were at Barca, he would have never left as instead of 6m gross for 6 years, he would have been on 15-20m gross.

Can't blame it all on Messi, though it is true that Barto was petrified of being the President that lost him (more so than being the President that led the club to financial ruin funnily enough). But if it was just Messi on a franchise contract, then once Messi leaves/left, then the rest of the wage bill would fall back into a natural detox- it didn't.

Thats how media works in Catalonia, they were capable of convince people to vote for Bartomeu... we are surrounded by idiots.

anyways

In Rac1, they say that it has nothing to do with Qatar.
It is one of the levers already made on NFTS and the digital metaverse bought by Socios.com. Barça repurchases and sells them again to other investors.
The Qatar thing goes another way that maybe it will be done later.

Interesting, this is what El Confidencial reported today as well. Not sure what happened and how it works since the 16% is supposed to part of the 49% of Barça Studios we already sold to Jaume Roures and socios.com, how did we buy it back (where did the money come from?) and why the 60m is counted as new income? Nobody seems to know. It does appear that Jaume Roures and socios.com agreed to this because they postponed their payment to us which was supposed to happen in June. Perhaps it is just shares changing hands. Maybe Jaume Roures and socios.com never paid us the 200m in full, so we only counted for the whatever initial money we received from them last year as income at the time so this 60m counts as new income? Makes more sense this way.

But I will take it if it works out for us.

This happened when Bartomeu let Zubizarreta do his thing. It was marvellous in summer 2014.

He rushed after few bad results mid-season and fired Zubi, and it was downhill from there.

Bartomeu fell for a known psychological trick for leaders: when things go south, they think they should do more by themselves as they can't trust those under them.

He hired awful SD in Roberto, Abidal & Pep Segura. And didn't give any of them full power and intervened several times. It was destructive.

Trusting the right people is always the key, Bartomeu did it only once with Zubi, never after.

Look at Laporta's first tenure, he wanted Lippi or Mourinho to succeed Rijkaard, but was told by Crujif and Txiki that Pep is the man, and he trusted them.

Alemany and Deco/Jordi aren't Crujif and Txiki, but they are better than Abidal & Roberto Fernandez, though Jury's still on Deco.
Abidal, especially, was a disaster. He was a confident idiot. The worst combination.
He undermined EV from day one, and tried to push him out non-stop without a replacement in hand, never mind pushing for Griezmann, getting obsessed with Frenkie.

Fair take, don't find myself disagreeing with much but hindsight is key unfortunately.

Reading the forum here, nearly everyone wanted Zubi out so it's easy to say what should have happened when we already know the results.

Off-topic perhaps

How long did Barca have Estrella as a sleeve sponsor?

Estrella Damm has been a sponsor for Barça for many years but they are not an official sleeve sponsor. We have been wearing them only on the sleeves for pre-season and friendlies for several years.

Bit of a revision of history there.

Zubi was roundly targetted as every other sporting director was more or less.

Rakitic was on Enrique anyway.. Zubi had Kroos lined up... same with Suarez I believe.. Zubi was pushing for Aguero but was impossible.
