Yet Laporte is blasted for being Athletic's best defender by far(by his own team's fans admission) and was said to be much inferior to this guy.

That's not to say Stones will not improve and end up as one of the best CBs in the World five years forward. With a better coach, and a lot of learning to do, he might end up there.

Tbf, Bilbao are a much much more combative team, always with guys like San Jose or Iturraspe ahead of him too.

I didn't see the game, but I think after the hype of last Summer, it's just become a bit of a meme to pin all of Everton's defensive problems on Stones.

Oh, but we actually have a user on this forum who used those exact words. I think it's only natural to poke a bit of fun at that.

He's been mediocre to terrible whenever I've seen him this season, but let's see him shine at the Euros, if he gets in the team of course. What better venue to showcase your god given talent?

It's weird Everton have all these divine talents in Stones, Lukaku, Barkley. But they still suck.

Any preference on who comes in? See De Boer linked quite a bit.

People close to the club say it's Koeman and have been saying it for weeks. The fans want Mourinho but that's a bit unrealistic although apparently Jose contacted us but that was probably just to put pressure on Utd. There is however going to be a lot of money to spend in the summer so you never know. Besides Mourinho if it's between Koeman and De Boer personally I would prefer De Boer.

They will all be upgrades on Martinez. We can't continue to need to score 3 and 4 goals to win football matches.

Stones is a very good player and will come good next season with the right manager. Either of those 3 would be good for him.

Like who?

Woodgate ? Bale too .
Historically British player were the most foreign nationality that played for us (not sure if they still hold the record) but it has been around couple of decades since a british player played at Barca IIRC

And they hardly have a "fetish" for it either. What was Bale's estimated value and what is it now? Pretty sure they are doing just fine with that signing from a financial standpoint.

I really don't want this guy, but at least his price has got to have dropped quite a bit after this godawful season he's had.
