He did. But he wasn't prepared at all to play there. In an interview he said he was completely surprised when the coach told him less than 2 hours before the game he was in the starting lineup at LB.

And i think Mathieu isn't much slower than Alba.

You can read an article on the internet that tells you he's faster, and I can watch the games and know he's not even close. Those tests don't mean shit when he's letting Bale gleefully skip past him and whip the ball into the box unopposed when Alba outruns him to every ball for 90 minutes straight.
