Josep Maria Bartomeu

OMG. The new president is likely to have his own candidate for Sporting Director though. Monchi is on Benedito's ticket I think. And Laporta, according to rumors, want his old team back.

If its true, thats disappointing. It's understandable to confide in the familiar, but a new dawn calls for enterprising and progressive minds. Not sure what his old team can offer, given Txiki's work at City hasn't been particularly flattering.

Bartomeu (president): "FIFA ban? It's clear more clubs are involved. Don't want them to be punished too, I'd want FIFA to reconsider" [rac1]

I support his recent decision to appoint Braida.
If Barca applied the proccess of hiring proven professionals across the board instead of signing mascots, the club wouldn't be in this predicament.

Not sure about this one. His dealings in the transfer markets in the clubs he's been in haven't been convincing, albeit he's always been on a tight budget, no matter where he went. We shouldn't be concerned about this though, since there's no way Barto wins the election against Laporta.

I'm not sure it's certain laporta will win. If we win la liga and/or the cdr, bartomeu will have a great chance.

I doubt results would save his position ,if this is the case Rosell would have never won against Laporta's team in 2010 .Socios didn't care at the continuation of win with a president from the board of our best team ever
I think it is more about the image of the club that will get him out,the ban was simply the kiss of death for the board ,we got banned and it tarnished the board the same way Neymar deal tarnished Rosell .I doubt he will be able to get away with it
Nevermind that Laporta had enough result during his tenure ,football results is important ,I just doubt it is the main motivation for socios as it is for the fans

If team wins major trophies or shows signs to become a powerful team again, Barto has a very good chance. He did a great job distancing himself from Rossel, he kicked out most of the Rossel executives and made a ballsy move by calling early elections. FIFA ban won't damage him because it wasn't his fault. It is rather going to help him because it is perceived like the corrupted officials and RM are trying to damage the club. He already started to implant the idea by stating that he got an audit from Hacienda just like Messi and Pique. Another good tactical move(which has also a good potential to backfire) is his refusal to go to FIFA's BdO gala. That softened FIFA's position and he might get a head-start in relationship with new elected president of FIFA . People think that Laporta got this thing in his pocket, but if the socios are happy with team performance - Barto will have better chances than Laporta. Personally I would like to see someone with more influence in Spain and FIFA, because it's really frustrating to see Barca in the cross-hair of the corrupt organizations.

Laporta never put forward a team in 2010 and no one really wanted to stand with his backing as they new they had next to no chance.

I dont buy this idea that the Neymar deal nor the transfer ban tarnished the board or the image of the club. The Neymar deal will most likely end up being the best transfer of the last 15 years. Who cares how it was done. It was done in the way any club trying to get would have got it done.

I can understand why people dont like Rosell but Barto has done well since he came in and actually handled the Messi/Lucho situation very well and club has come out it stronger.

Barto seems to be his own man and he has taken his own decisions these past few months. The lastest rumoured to be establishing again the link to Cruyff foundation.

Couldn't agree more. Barto fixing the relationship with Cruyff and not renewing Qatar sponsorship is going to damage Laporta's campaign even more. I believe Cruyff is interested to fix the relationship with the club now so he won't become bargaining chip during the election. At this point Barto repaired his image and no one sees him as Rosell's puppet anymore. If team continues to perform, Laporta will get no chance and I think that's why he is not announcing his candidacy.

Do you think Cruyff will back Bartomeu? Never gonna happen. He is gonna stand there with Laporta and Bartomeu has not repaired his image yet. He has contributed to damaging the club so much that it would be next to impossible to fix anything unless there's people with dementia voting.

What has he done to damage the club so much?

Being the 2nd man in Rosell board ain't enough?deciding to keep Zubizarreta for so long in a crucial time?
Rosell didn't damage the club on his own.it is the full board .voting for Botomeu mean continuation of the same Rosell board

Khaled already answered your question.

This board are in with this together and have been so for more than 4 years. Their performance have been shameful and they have damaged the club more than enough. Bartomeu is a major part of it, especially since he was the 1st Vice-President of the club under Rosell's tenture and his right hand man.
